The second time we've stayed at The Place and another excellent experience. I asked for a view when I booked because it was my birthday the next day, and the upstairs room they gave us had a wonderful view of the city! It was a roomy, stylish room with tea and coffee, hairdrier and huge TV. There is a relaxing bar and the breakfast is self service (and excellent) so you can have a mini-cooked breakfast without indulging too much. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The cost considering it is in Edinburgh city centre is very reasonable compared with others.

Room Tip: Ask for a view and you might get our room, which was excellent!

I stayed here with my mum as we were going to the theatre and found the hotel to be ideally located for this purpose. I, like some of the others, found it a little difficult to locate in the dark but once there we were made very welcome. Our room was in the basement, but neither of us found this to be a problem. There were a few flights of stairs to get there, however, so worth while being aware if you have poor mobility. The room was compact, but as we weren't spending much time there this didn't cause us any concerns.
We had a few drinks in the bar the next night and also ate in the restaurant and were extremely well looked after. Our meals were very good (we had salmon and chicken), and they were extremely good value for money.
I would certainly return here, and recommend to friends/ family. A really lovely place.

From check in to check out I could not fault this hotel. Five minutes walk from the station and ideally located for the centre of the city. Staff are friendly and accommodating. My room had everything you need and the bed was so comfortable. Breakfast offered plenty of choice and the lounge/ bar area very tasteful and comfortable. Only negative would be to display a more prominent sign outside as I had tried to check in to the wrong "place" further along. I was very relieved to discover The Place was my intended hotel and not the other one! Would definitely return.

After a difficult journey we were made very welcome. Room was spacious with a decent sitting area, comfortable and the bed very comfortable. The Staff were extremely helpful and we had a delicious pre theatre dinner without rushing.
Just a suggestion better signage outside not easy to spot in the dark.

Room Tip: As there I are 2 floors and no lift, make sure you are on first floor if mobility is a problem.

We stayed early December for a short weekend break. Location is excellent..close to shops and restaurants. Our room was in the basement, a bit of a walk from reception area, no lift and very small ... But we had been told this when we booked so we're not really surprised, apparently all of the bigger rooms had already been booked! The room was clean and comfortable ... If a little too hot until we turned down the radiator. Soundproofing could be a bit better. We could hear muffled conversations from nearby rooms. Not enough to keep us awake, but ... The bar was very comfortable and the Barman was very attentive without being overbearing. The lady on reception was excellent, very informative regarding directions, the locations of various attractions and really helpful in booking restaurants for us. I would definitely recommend this hotel and we would happily return when visiting Edinburgh in future.

Room Tip: If possible avoid the smaller rooms in the basement.

Hotel location is great for walking around the city. Our room was comfortable but small (we knew this going in - not a surprise) and had a lovely view. The bathroom was clean and modern. Our prix fixe dinner in the hotel restaurant was tasty and very reasonably priced. Would recommend the hotel based on location.

Side note: The wifi was ridiculous - the login process was annoying and complex, and the signal was not very strong. We ran through the alloted access very quickly and had to get new login codes from the front desk. It's not the end of the world and it's not a big deal to all people, but we were really annoyed with this system.
