Paid a visit to the museum expecting to spend maybe an hour looking around but due to the many exhibits and things to see ended up spending over 2 hours inside, in truth we could have spent longer as the exhibits were spread over many floors. Admission is free which made it very worthwhile but we made a donation ( optional ) which we thought was deserved due to a good visit. If you have a few hours spare would highly recommend.

What a brilliant way to spend an afternoon, Lots of interactive exhibits and interesting artefacts, and best of all it's free. A must for a day out.

I’ve visited the museum a few times now when in Edinburgh and it’s always a great experience. The actual museum is huge and there is plenty to discover... definitely something for everyone and although I don’t have children, I noticed there was plenty of spaces for children to play and learn.
A great activity for all ages!

3 generations of our family came to see this museum and every one of us found something to like and it’s all free.
Brilliant day out, we were here most of the day and still didn’t see everything.
We saw the awesome Millenium clock but missed the roof terrace.
We appreciated the children’s room where the little ones could run off some energy, they had enjoyed the animals and also the science section but they needed a runabout.
The Scottish section was amazing, I personally enjoyed the clothing exhibition but we missed a lot of the museum - you need more than one day here.
We had lunch in the museum, it was expensive but enjoyable, the kids boxes were £5 and had a small ham sandwich, tangerine, tunnocks teacake, water and skinny popcorn which they all enjoyed.

Fantastic museum. Lots to do and see. We loved the roof terrace; some amazing views of Edinburgh.
Took a good few hours to get round it all

We had a lovely time here and find it to be very interesting. Definitely is a must see if you visit Edinburgh! Maybe we will visit again next year in spring when new galleries will open - Egyptian and Asian!

It's a mix of fun and knowledge. Surely not to miss. Interactive entertainment from both children and adults.

Wonderful exhibits of all sorts of things from all over the world, as museums do. Make for sure that you give yourself time to visits the Scottish portion of the museum as well (we almost missed it, as it’s over by the lifts on several floors). Also a must- take the lift to the 7th floor for a spectacular view of Edinburgh off of the rooftop terrace!

Whatever you do, make time to see the millennium clock when it chimes on the hour and do go up to the roof terrace!

Being from Edinburgh my family and I visit here frequently. It’s never dull though with a host of interactive activities and things to see. I just wish the main museum would mix it up every year or so like some bigger ones do. That said, definitely worth a visit....for me an Edinburgh Institution.
