Owner description: Captain's Bar has Scottish Folk music nightly in this historic and traditional bar in the old town. Close to the Royal Mile but a genuine Scottish bar where people appreciate talented musicians. Some nights are traditional singing - old folk songs and contemporary. Other nights are acoustic fiddle, guitar, flute and bagpipes. There are special folk sessions on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The bar sells coffee and has wifi and a book exchange. Small seated area and the rest is standing area.

“Music”
Reviewed 31 May 2014 via mobile

We've been to the Captains Bat twice now, once on a Sunday afternoon and now on a Friday night. We had interesting folk music each time & people could join in. This last time, a woman came up to sing and later, a man came up with different whistles and joined in. Good beer and Whisky available too. Only downside was the conversation noise from the bar. If you go, get a chair close to the corner where the musicians sit. And tip, when the cup gets passed.

“Mixed response”
Reviewed 26 April 2014

Expecting great things from the number 1 bar in Edinburgh, but left a little disappointed. Staff a little pre-occupied to help with beer choice and the place is a little run down.
