Last Thursday saw my first visit to a tasting night at SMWS queens street Edinburgh. The venue is a great hulking mid terrace with a great restaurant on the ground floor and the bar and members room on the first floor. We were greeted by carol singers and had a wee dram in the bar before going up to the second floor for our tasting. The tasting comprised 5 drams a mulled wine on arrival and a lovely meal of roast pork. Anna, our hostess and whisky ambassador was excellent and helped us understand the complexities of the whiskies we were tasting that evening.

Fantastic value for money and a great night out. One tip, the lift can take some time to become available if the tasting rooms are busy as the staff bring the food upstairs in it.

Love visiting the scottish malt whisky society. Now have a new favourite beer from an Alloa micro brewery called Williams "Ceilidh"

Good knowledgable staff - notable the training received although dodgy xmas jumpers!

The best selection of whisky you're likely to find this side of heaven.

We were able to get the last available table here using Toptable app last Friday. Unfortunately the Toptable did not inform SMWS in Queen Street. However full marks to staff who gave us complimentary drinks in bar whilst they 'found' us a space. Food absolutely fabulous as always. The fish amuse Bouche to accompany the whisky taster was delicious. Companions had the scallops to start ( excellent) followed by venison with pear and parsnip also deemed worth eating. I indulged in soup to start - very flavoursome followed by the pork, which I loved. Desserts were mixed- the poached peach was divine and very light, chocolate torte very solid and pastry base was rock solid. Lovely wine.

Chaine des Rotisseurs hosted a welcome dinner for 16 visiting Chaine members at the SMWS in Leith. We started the evening with an excellent tasting experience which we have done with visitors before and is a huge success. Mark, our Single Malt Ambassador was knowledgeable and enthusiastic - obviously passionate about the society and its aims. We followed the tasting with a really lovely set meal, based on a menu that we had used at rthe society on Burns Night. It was a great success and the food whilst not being exceptional, is really very good, nicely presented with a distinct local flavour.

Highly recommended.

Had a very lovely meal here, two course Menu Du Jour which was £18.50 and three courses £22.50- I had mackrel and then pork both excellent. The desert was a deconstructed apple and blackberry crumble to be honest it was lovely but would have preferred it to be constructed.

Really lovely surroundings the members bar upstairs you could easily spend a lot of time there drinking lots of the lovely whisky. A very pleasant evening with nice food and wine would definitely return.
