Very helpful and friendly. We were made to feel very welcome and it was not a problem when we had to change our booking 3 times due to flight problems. Delicious cooked breakfasts always get extra points:-). Short walking distance to City Center so its ideal for shopping trips or taking in a show.

My husband and I stayed here in October 2012 for 2 nights. I telephoned well in advance to book the double ensuite and informed the owner Graham that we were both vegetarian and went through the type of things we can eat at breakfast. On arrival, there was no-one there to meet us. We ran the bell twice and had to use the telephone on the outside wall to speak to someone. Graham answered and said we had to go across the road to the other guest house. We rang the bell and knocked - still no answer. We stood 10 minutes and eventually he arrived in a taxi. He stated that he thought we had booked for the night before ! He showed us to our room, still insisting that we had told him we were coming on the Friday (and not the Saturday !). I informed him that we definitely booked for Sat and Sun, as we were both working on the Friday and my husband was working the Saturday morning. It was his error, but he wouldn't apologise, saying he was cursing my name on the Friday (not what you want to hear from your host!). The room was small, but it was clean and warm. We only had one hand towel between us. We each had a thin smallish bath towel. There was no room to put any of our things such as toiletries, hairbrush etc as the only surface was taken up by the tv and coffee/tea stuff. The kettle was on the floor as there was no other place to put it. My pillow was full of lumps and the mattress was really old and springy. I didn't get a good night's sleep at all. I had to ask Graham about breakfast times, he did not offer information first. He had forgotten we were vegetarian. The bathroom was small but clean and the shower was fine. No room to put anything - we were supplied with useless stuff such as cotton wool balls and cotton buds ! No fire information was displayed in the rooms either (which I thought you had to have by law)

The breakfast was adequate but cheap. Only orange juice offered plus tea/coffee. A few different cereals. He hadn't bothered getting anything in advance for us eg veggie sausages. We had cheap mushrooms, scrambled eggs, toast and tomatoes. He even said to us it was a good job we didn't ask for beans as he didn't have any ! The last day when we went to pay our money, he informed us he would be found across the road in the other guest house they own.

We knocked on the door and a guest let us in ! Graham was having his breakfast - we paid the money but he didn't even ask us if we had had a nice stay. To be honest, he seemed to be going through the motions and didn't seem interested in the people who stayed at his establishment. We won't go back there again - not enough attention to detail plus the place needs updating and a bit more money needs to be spent on the basics such as pillows, bedroom furniture and breakfasts.

We stayed there 09-27 - 09-30. No shower in the room we had to share on shower with all the other guests. Room was cold and we could not regulate the heat. Coffee maker sits on the floor, we got only one key and the heater leaked water the whole floor was wet. Breakfast was okay. 60 pounds a night is a total rip off.

Room Tip: Read good reviews carefully.

Cruachan was recommended by another Guest House that was full. We arrived to a very warm welcome and were shown into a beautiful room. Everything was provided. The room was clean, bright and spacious and decorated with style and superb taste. Graham was the perfect host and couldn't do enough to help us. We needed a room for two-nights and he only had one but promised he would find us one for the second night. We were greeted with such warmth by the staff serving breakfast and nothing was too much trouble. It was like being spoiled by Mum on a trip home. Breakfast was fit for a King and the other guests were so relaxed and friendly. They had all enjoyed their stay and wanted to stay longer. All of them vowed they would be back next year. We moved across the road to another of Graham's Guest House's - Adam Drysdale - which is being redesigned by Graham. It is already at a high standard and our room was perfect. Sadly it was not possible to stay another night, though by this point we would have been happy to stay in the shed - such was the delight of staying with Graham and his team and we made some lovely new friends over breakfast and look forward to seeing them next year.Thank you so much.

Room Tip: All the rooms are bright, spacious and full of all the things you need. However, if you need anything...

Edinburgh was the first stop on our trip and we were welcomed by Graham, our Innkeeper. We had a nice large room at the front of the house on the first floor. We seemed very close to all the places we wanted to see; Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood, The National Museum, and Rosslyn Chapel. Everything was a short bus ride away. Breakfast in the morning was very enjoyable. Graham likes music and sings along as he cooks some of the best eggs we have ever has. The smoked salmon was also great. In our four day stay Graham and the staff were very cordial, friendly, and helpful. We'd choose to stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor might have had less exposure to bus and truck noise, but it did not bother...

I reserved a room at Cruachan at the last minute, as my other accommodation fell through. The room, a ground-floor single, was small and very basic, with a worn-out mattress, a TV placed so that there was always glare on the screen, and a window that looked directly into the breakfast room (not much privacy). But it was clean and quiet, with a powerful shower and nice toiletries. The staff were all very friendly and eager to answer questions about the city, and the price was excellent. A good deal if you're looking for something cheap and simple in a location convenient to the Old Town.

Room Tip: I don't recommend the ground-floor single.
