“Lovely renovated hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2013 via mobile

Room was spacious ... Recently refurbished bathroom ... Lovely and clean ... They even let us leave our suitcases there after checkout so we could finish exploring Edinburgh ... The breakfast was average but enough to eat ... Friendly staff ... Would highly recommend it ... There is no lift so if stairs are not your thing don't stay here. But if you don't like stairs maybe Edinburgh isn't the place for you anyway... We liked it

We arrived and were greatly surprised by this establishment. Our room was huge for the three of us but lovely and warm throughout our stay. The staff cannot do enough fo you and the breakfast lasted us until teatime!!!The train station is literally at the bottom of the street,so no long way to carry bags. Its on a great bus service but to get to the start of Prince's street is only 10 minutes walk.Im glad I didnt come by car as you can't park outside the hotel.Theres a great choice of eating all over the town-all easily reached from the hotel.Well done to elaine, andrina and staff.

Room Tip: We were at the back of the hotel which was lovely and quiet.

Me and the wife stayed at the Haymarket for a couple of days end of March 2013, room great, clean spacful en suit, big comfy double bed, stayed on second floor, very quiet, all amenities in room, flat screen telly, kettle, hair dryer.easy to find but parking was a mare, can only stay for 4 hours outside hotel at a cost of £8, edinburgh is going thri implementing tram line works, so all the streets are dug up so driving around is a test.
Night life great and only 5 minute walk away, lovely home welcoming bars and eateries, the castle was amazing. recommend this hotel, did not eat here so cant comment, but well looked after.

Room Tip: the higher the floor the better and larger the room.

I booked a single room in this hotel by telephone, I intended on staying 7 nights but I could only put up with for one night, the only reason I didn't leave straight away was because it was snowing, dark and cold outside. I arrived to an empty desk took a while to find a bell, the lady arrived but the smell of the place had already made me uncomfortable!,,, I got a tiny room decorated sometime in the 1980's. the bathroom was spotless and newly installed. The bedroom curtains gad 2 inches of dust on the top and there was at least1 inch of dust on the radiator and kick boards. The t.v. Didn't work but at least there was wifi. Breakfast was an experience, the glass for the juice was the size of a timbal, won't ever stay there again

Room Tip: Don't risk it

Mostly I was very okay with the Haymarket Hotel. Its very accessible - if you come into Edinburgh via the Haymarket Train Station, its just a few minutes walk. If you come into Waverley, take a taxi! Its within walking distance to several restaurants and shops, and if you don't mind a walk, you can get into the city center easily. The hotel itself is clean and the staff that I met was super friendly. The set-up is in three different buildings, so breakfast was served next door, but that's not really that big a deal. My room was beautiful and clean and had modern fixtures. The shower pressure and temperature was fabulous. Now for the two points that weren't that great - but were fine for only a 3 day stay. I didn't complain about this at the time and only want to mention it now so you might be aware of it - The door/walls of my room must have been super thin. I could hear everything going on above me. I was immediately down the stairs from the lobby/bar area and it was almost like there was no barrier at all. I heard voices and heavy footsteps as if they were in the same room. The bar was immediately above me too. Fortunately they close it at midnight, so the noise ended about when I would go to bed anyway. Still, it was loud enough for me to notice it every time. The other thing was, that though the room has a television, I could never get it to turn on. This wasn't that big a deal to me, as I was exhausted after my touring every day and preferred to read. Other than that, the hotel was just fine. And not at all expensive!

Room Tip: Maybe if you need to have quiet, you should let them know from the get-go. Maybe top floor?

Only good thing in Haymarket Hotel is it's location.

It's too cold in the room. Water in the shower is ice-cold, windows don't work properly, toilet seat is not well assembled, room is not very well cleaned, there is dust everywhere, internet worked only after complaining, there were construction-works being done there and we were not informed or apoligized because of them. The matress in the room is too hard and short. Wardrobe is shaky and unstable, and you can hear everything from neighbouring room.

I needed a hotel at a reasonable price and was pleasantly surprised I got one which was nice and handy to the city centre. Very close to Haymarket Station. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room seemed to be newly done up as I notice other rooms are being worked on probably for the peak season. Breakfast was a pleasant seeing and good value.
