Crowne Plaza Edinburgh - Royal Terrace
Ranked #105 of 150 Hotels in Edinburgh
Reviewed 27 October 2013 via mobile

My aunt spent two nights at this hotel and it soon became our best choice for our guests for the unbeatable prices and excellent rooms and service. Formally known as Royal Terrace Hotel, this remodeled Victorian style building near the city centre is central but far enough from the hustle and bustle. Choose a room on the 3rd floor facing north for the sea view or facing south to see the city and Arthur's Seat.

All the staff were helpful and friendly. Quiet location yet still within easy walking distance of the centre & Waverly Station - good localtion for climbing Carlton Hill (& getting to the shops!). Good breakfast, nice room - comfortable bed & loved the pillow spray! Great shower - nice and powerful, will stay here again.

The Crowne Plaza Edinburgh on Royal Terrace is an excellent hotel. Our check-in by Esther was exceptional, and we were assigned a room on the 4th floor facing the beautiful gardens! The room was very large and the bathroom is nicely appointed with a bathtub and excellent water pressure. There is a very nice armoire (closet) with the in-room safe, shelves for placing clothing and hangers to hang shirts, trousers, etc. The room was so quiet that we never heard our neighbors or even the lift, which is close to our room. Couple of areas for improvement: the wifi signal from our beds was weak, but when situated near the door, the signal was strong and the download speeds were good, especially as it is complimentary. The other area for improvement is to see a electric socket near the beds as these are only available by the desk/TV. Lastly, the beds were fairly comfortable.

Breakfast was delightful and served in a lovely area, with access to the garden which one must see and appreciate. All the expected hot dishes of an English breakfast were available,as well as being able to order porridge or pancakes from the menu and a few other items for a low supplement.

A special thank you also to the bartender who took my late evening food order in person and even delivered the food to my room. Now that is what I call cool excellent service! And the large chicken salad was delicious!

We did use the Business Centre to surf the internet and print documents, which is complimentary and appreciated! The stairwell from the ground floor to our room on the 4th floors is lovely, with nice portraits hanging from the wall for appreciation.

Overall, the staff at this hotel is professional and respectful and we enjoyed our 3 night stay in Edinburgh. The walk to the Theater District, John Lewis and a shopping mall, nearby restaurants (Kushi's and Taste of Italy are wonderful!) and the Waverly train station took 5-15 minutes, depending on your destination.

Thanks to the CP Royal Terrace for adding to our wonderful Edinburgh experience ... your hotel deserved a 4.5 star rating!

Room Tip: Request a room facing the garden!!

Just back from 2 days at this wonderful hotel, From the minute we arrived to we left the staff were excellent and the hotel facilities are great. Special thanks to Anita in the restaurant for her wonderful service and pleasant smile. Our daughter thought she was great. The receptionist at arrival and departure was also brilliant. The Hotel is clean and wonderfully kept, as a priority member we will certainly be returning in the near future. Once again thanks for the lovely break.

Room Tip: Third floor and front facing, They have great views

It is a good hotel, but unfortunately some minor details leave a bad impression:
1) two lights in our room were not in working order - the room in the evenings was rather dark;
2) rubbish bins were located right in front of the hotel and right opposite our windows (room 116) - in the morning workers made a lot of noise filling them with bottles and preparing for being taken away and then comes loading... - and in general rubbish bins are absolutely out of place in the lovely Royal Terrace;
3) the smell in a small restaurant hall is embarassing (we had dinner there) - no, it is not a smell of food being cooked, it just smells old pub carpets or s-th like that - certainly needs being refreshed.

Room Tip: choose a room facing a garden to avoid rubbish bins in the front

Dear Nadezhdal,

Many thanks for your recent feedback I am delighted you enjoyed your stay with us. Similar to all the hotels in the street we have to dispose of our refuge on a daily basis. As we have our Green Engage we have substantially reduced the number of bins we have.

I am happy to discuss our green programme with you further.

Where do I start - right from check-in to check-out you could not ask for better service. As a Platinum member I've become blasé about upgrades but was told I'd been upgraded - wow! Room was huge, bathroom huge and many little touches to make the stay fantastic. The staff are excellent, professional, efficient, pleasant, attentive. The Club Lounge was well maintained, there was always a member of staff popping in to make sure all was Ok. The location is brilliant, being far enough from the centre to be quiet but close enough to walk. Only one downer was my fault and that was a parking ticket on the day we visited Glasgow - but I'm sure when I called the hotel before staying that they told me I could top up the parking even after 4hours - lesson learned! Particular special mentions to Lisa, Ayron and Anita - but to be honest the whole team are a well managed and motivated group. Will definitely be back!

Room Tip: The room was chosen for us - but if you can get room 121 you won't be disappointed!
