“Good Hotel,”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 March 2012

Good hotel but certain things are letting it down. I booked this room for 4 nights in the £10 per night offer, very please with the room over looking the river to the rear on the top floor. Small niggly things let it down. Front desk staff absolutly fabulous, small problem when I went to check in, in such that they had already booked some one else in under my name, but hey they got it sorted. Room was clean and tidy. When we went to un-pack we found that the draws had been screwed close and the handles removed, when I asked the staff why I was told that the cleaning company had does this so it does not take so long to clean a room. My question is why have a facility then take it away? The only real problem with this hotel is the outside cleaning company. I placed the towels in the bath to be replaced and all they did was fold them back up and put them back on the shelf. On the final night, on returning from our day out we found that the room had not ben hoover as there was flakes of what looked like paint all over the floor. when talking to the front desk staff, they did offer to move us but I said it was our last night and it wasn't worth it.

Overall a good hotel, basic. excellent location just outside of the city centre

Needed a cheap and clean hotel, close to Murrayfield for the Kings of Leon concert in June 2011. I had stayed here in March 2011 with friends and the visit this time was much the same.

Rooms are pretty spartan and not as pleasing as a Premier Inn, but they certainly were clean and comfortable. Decent sized bathroom with a good shower. Can't comment on the restaurant as didn't eat there during both visits (plenty of place in City Centre).

The hotel is probably a 15 minute walk, or around £8 in a taxi to the City Centre.

Overall 3 / 5.

Pro's: Cheap and cheerful, clean and comfortable.
Con's: Don't expect luxury, not the closest hotel to the city centre.

Overall we re not very impressed with the general standard and the cleanliness of our room. We booked for a family room, and our daughter's bed wasn't even made, wasn't too sure our bed was clean from the moment there were hair on the bed, there was stain on the sofa bed,the room wasn't hoovered, the windows were so dirty we couldn't see outside. We asked for another room and they did told us that somebody would have made the bed , instead they left the linen on the bed for us to make.the breakfast £7.50 per person was awful, the toaster machine didn't work etc. I also work for a Hotel and I wouldn't treat a guest like that. Overall a disappointed experience.

Stayed here for three nights on the travelodge £10 sale. Room quite clean and had no problems of note. Where else are you going to get a three night break for 2 for £30? out exploring Edinburgh during day so all we look for in a room is comfy bed, bathroom, tv and tea making facilities. All these needs were met. We usually manage 3 breaks a year on travelodge sale, and have never had any problems at all.

Stayed in the Travelodge Edinburgh West End.

Presently staying here whilst on business in Edinburgh for 4 nights; midweek - Monday/Friday.

Listen up Folks. Yes alot of people whine about this hotel; get over yourselves- it's a Travelodge, Cheap and cheerful..............nothing more, nothing less. It's basic as Motel standards go, But at £29 a night for an city center hotel, who can complain?

The evening menu is slightly over priced and I refused to pay £7.50 for the "All you can eat" breakfast.................Not many people could stomach one platefull, never mind a second.

The rooms are VERY basic but clean and warm. A little noisy to the front of the building, over looking the car park but it did seem to quieten down by Nine 0' Clock.in the evening.

The staff are polite and quite helpful and part of the hotel is located in an old mill building adjacent to a small river.

The walk into the city centre (Haymarket) is about 15 mins and I experienced to problems walking back to the hotel at night.

Car parking is restricted to a couple of dozens places that fill up really quickly.

THE BIG ATTRACTION................GET THIS..............ONLY £3 FOR 24 HOUR PARKING.

Accept the fact that it's a travelodge and has it's limitations and you'll be fine. Value for money and an all round 8/10.

Room Tip: Try getting a room on the back or if your'e limited to the front, over the carpark ask for the 4...

Having spent a lot of money travelling to and staying in Edinburgh this year we decided to opt for staying 2 nights budget style...what a mistake!!

The hotel is perfectly positioned location wise - convenient, nice river beside and benefiting from its own carpark. Unfortunately the positives end there.

Reasonable welcome, but spoilt by a member of staff openly airing her grievances about her place of work and manager whilst waiting in reception.

The hotel is incredibly shabby - scuffed walls, alarms hanging off, stained carpets. On entering our room it can only be described as a prison cell. One wardrobe (no handles), a bed that looked like a campbed (with 2 of the thinnest pillows I've ever seen) and an overwhelming smell of grease and cigarettes. We hadn't even put our bags down when we turned and left.

Thankfully a refund wasn't a problem and, thankfully, the whole experience was over and done with in less than an hour. How can Premier Inn get it so right and Travel Lodge get it so wrong?!

Never again!

4 of us stayed on a visit to the zoo and stopped 2 nights, after reading reviews we were pleasantly surprised yes it was basic but overall it was clean. The breakfast was good with a varied choice. We walked into town about 15-20 mins to the centre and caught taxis to the zoo for under £10 and back from town at night for £5.For what we payed it was good value if you want more luxury pay more.Overall a good base to explore Edinburgh.
