“It was further than we thought”
Reviewed 17 February 2014

At first we thought it not far from town, but walk long away and finally arrived the hotel, it was like travel lodge, bit disappointment then got into the room, three beds and small bathroom, but no tv remote so we asked and wait, but we were out most of the time and on the last day we had breakfast at the hotel, it was bit crowed need more space, waiting for the food to arrive and need more staff, wouldn't go there again, rather in central so make it easier especially with my disability. The reason we were there to celebration our 17 years anniversary.

We were treated to a night away for a Christmas present with friends. Hotel ok staff friendly and helpful. Room could have been a little cleaner but more grubby than dirty. Drinks and food excellent. Overall a very pleasant time was had and for cheap & cheerful would recommend

Room Tip: We had a room 218 which looked out onto the weir at the back of the hotel much quieter

Travelled up for the rugby last minute; on arrival an extra bed was fitted into our room - reception very helpful and friendly.

Had problem with hot warer been luke warm, but Martin hotel manager resolved the problem personally.

Rooms are basic but clean and tidy, great value for what you pay. 10 mins walk to Murrayfield and Princess St in other direction. Would come again

This hotel needs a major overhaul. We booked via a Group On deal (£60 for one night). The lift didnt work and when we finally reached our room the whole room including the bathroom smelled of urine. The stench was foul. To say that the place is basic is an under statement. I am happy to stay in basic but clean accommodation but this place was not sanitary. To be fair to the chap on reception he was very polite and offered us another room but we had seen enough. I had the feeling this wasnt the first time he had dealt with people checking straight back out. We lost our money but I would have prefered this to staying somewhere that is just not clean. The hotel is not central and also has running water outside which you could hear loudly in the room. All in the all a place that urgently needs some TLC.

Room Tip: Look elsewhere.

This hotel is enormous but there seemed to be about 10 rooms in use.
the staff are friendly
The restaurant is more of a cafe - I wouldn't use it
The Breakfast basic but ok for 6£
It was a good price but if it is to attract more guests needs a better bar and a much better restaurant.
I stayed in the Granary - a very old building that had been converted to rooms - Insane !!

Bordering the river this should have been the restaurant and convert the cafe thing to rooms.

At 10 mins walk from central edinburgh this should have been packed.

Needs a big rethink - but if you want a cheap good size room and are prepared to walk for meals and a drink go for it
