We bought a two night stay from Groupon for this hotel as we especially wanted to go to Edinburgh at the end of February. The picture of the hotel looked good, on the banks of Leith water, but I couldn't access any pictures of the rooms or restaurant. Not a suprise now. It is the first time I have stayed anywhere that does not have any drawers any where. No mirror over the sheet of plywood that was the dressing table and to call the dining area a restaurant was a joke. It was like a transport cafe. However it was clean and the staff were very friendly and hard working, turning their hand to many jobs including the chap on reception clearing the breakfast tables. I wouldn't use it again but it would be good for workers or students.

Stayed on way up to Inverness. The hotel due to size from outside you expect to be lovely inside its not its basic. Our room was clean and shower was ok.TV worked but room cold had to sleep with heater on but this was not a problem.new quilt needed as its too thin.I have a back problem and the lumpy mattress did not help At all so bad night had.Tea and coffee provided but no biscuits.Room was above extractors but not noisy and backed into the river which was nice .
We went to the bar around 8pm and were told food had stopped when its advertised 9pm so we ventured up the road but found nothing so no supper ;-/ the staff on bar lovely on reception they ok.The eating and drinking/bar needs warming up it felt like a school canteen. All in all ok stay but couldn't have stayed longer as not comfortable enough for me.Shouldn't have to pay extra for parking in the car park that belongs to the hotel either find this very strange.

What can I say about this hotel? It was certainly much much better ran when it was the Dragonara, the Menzies and the travelodge! I loved the location when I used to stay with my children - had a decent car park and the travelodge ran it reasonably well - not sure why they sold it!
Things have went downhill since then however in terms of service, food and cleanliness - most of the reviews here are spot on - and the staff - who are no doubt well used to dealing with complaints - gave the impression of being wearied and fed up. You will have a job getting any money back. I certainly did!
If it's just a place to lay your head and you are a backpacker and just want a base within 15 mins of town centre then its passable I guess.

We have stayed at this hotel on a few occasions and were very disappointed during our stay this weekend. The previous review written "deceived" by Pennydropt pretty much sums everything up that we felt. It is such a shame as the position is very handy for the Modern art gallery and Princess St. I do hope that the Hotel is quickly refurbished and given a good housekeeper because it was very tatty and dirty.

From the photo given for the hotel we were led to believe we were booking a picturesque riverside hotel. Okay there is a dirty river which runs out the back which is accessible via a muddy walk over a broken carpark if you go looking for it. The concrete carpark and bins view of the hotel which greets you is another story. Once you push your way through the fog of smokers at the front door the reception is welcoming and staff are polite. You then have to go back out and pay your first £5 pay and display ticket for parking. You will have to be back every 24 hrs to make sure this is topped up. After making your way through the badly trolley marked corridor you come to the lifts with the broken floor tiles which will take you to your floor. Follow the scuffs and chips in the paintwork left by the housekeeping trolley to your room. Here we found that the door wouldn't open properly because the door closer on the back knocked against the wardrobe. The wardrobe which had one of it's three doors nailed closed and a handle missing contained a grand total of 3 hangers each. The furniture is scratched and chipped, the carpet is not hoovered, I don't know what was splattered on the ceiling or what had left the stains running down the walls. The mould on the windows was thick. There were tea/coffee making facilities with odd sized mugs but no teaspoons or any other means of stirring your drink or retrieving your teabags. The bed was comfortable but very noisy at the slightest movement. The bathroom had a good display of mould both on the tiles and the seals, lots of holes from previous positionings of fittings and a plug for the basin with a hole in the centre of it. The bath had been patched but the patch was now in need of patching. There was no hot water during our 3 day stay. At night we had to block the 2 inch gap under the bedroom door to try to reduce the light flooding in from the corridor, but the 2 red lights on the smoke detector that flashed above the bed every 5 seconds were not so easy to ignore. The room was comfortably warm but the noise from outside made us check to see if the window was open on several occasions. A good hair dryer was provided. An iron was available from reception but the ironing board was fit for the tip. Housekeeping do no more during your stay, than top up the dirty drinks holder and empty the bins. Admittedly, this hotel is one of the lower priced accommodations available but even this is deceptive by the time you've paid for your parking. This hotel needs a lot of money spending on refurbishment and training the house keeping staff.
