“Nice”
Reviewed 1 May 2014

Ordered fish and chips and hubby ordered the Melville burger. Fish was quite greasy, the chips were lovely. Would have been nice to have some tartare sauce or mayo.menu choice was very limited, not very extensive choices. If your a fussy eater this may not be the place to come. Hubby enjoyed his burger as the meat was very lean. Would probably not return here again unless they extended the menu

“Great day”
Reviewed 20 April 2014 via mobile

Walking through Edinburgh with my partner on a sunny Sunday, needed some refreshment so decided to pop in to the melville to quench our thirst. After seeing another table get the roast the smell soon became too intoxicating so we spoke to Stephen who was incredibly helpful and ordered the roast and fish and chips, in what felt like no time at all in the modern and sleek bar it arrived. Wow the first bite was great and it only got better from then on.

The roast beef was succulent, tender and melt in your mouth stuff the fish was brilliant perfect size with the chips which I couldn't help myself stealing a few were great.

Overall a great day with great staff and food. My only complaint is I can't come back every day

“Sunday No-ast.”
Reviewed 14 April 2014

We booked a table for Sunday after getting a groupon voucher. We got there and were not told what the roast was or asked about anything. As one of our party was a coeliac he had to go and find out what the roast was and whether there was a sauce/gravy and if so, whether it was gluten free. We were told it was lamb and that there was no gravy, it was served with mint sauce. So far, so good. The decor is nice and the staff were welcoming. The only person serving came and then told us that we were in for a bit of a wait as they were cooking the meat as they had ran out due to it being busy earlier on. So then after 5 mins we were shocked for our roasts to be brought out. When they set it down in front of me I was disappointed and I could tell the rest of our party was too. There was no veg, aside from a couple of pieces of carrot. There was barely any meat and the meat that was there was obviously recooked offcuts from the previous joints. To top it off it was covered in gravy. So again we had to ask whether it was gluten free, at first we were told that it was still mint sauce. Problem was, it clearly wasnt, it wasn't green and didn't taste of mint, at all. Then he came back and said it was a gravy with mint sauce running through it. Wrong again. Overall, the food was really poor. Maybe we were at an awkward time after the lunch rush but that's not our fault. The meat was really poor and no veg. A roast is not hard to get right but they managed it pretty spectacularly. Won't be going here again. I've given it 2 start because at least our food came.

“The worse Sunday roast ever”
Reviewed 13 April 2014 via mobile

Booked with groupon offer: greeting warm and welcoming but down hill very very fast thereafter. Table of 6 near us rejected all their roast dinners: cold undercooked. Was very worried what we would get: we were right to worry.....it was hot but that was the best thing to be said about the plate of food. Felt sorry for staff having to fend off complaints.....see pics. Avoid this establishment: greasy, undercooked, yucky. Our drinks were comped: a positive. Loos were clean too: another positive.
