“Friendly service - tasty burger”
Reviewed 24 November 2013

We visited Mathers on a nice Saturday afternoon armed with an itison voucher for two burgers and two drinks.
Service was extremely friendly from the moment we arrived and were shown to a booth. Its a long time since either of us were in Mathers, and it has obviously been refurbished. Our booth was great, with plenty of room for the two of us. Four would also find that they had plenty space. The walls were decorated with stamps, nice wooden table, comfy banquets, and everything was nice and clean.
We ordered a half pint of Schiehallion and a glass of red wine to drink. Burgers were a breakfast burger with sausage, fried egg and bacon, and a Hot Lips Cajun burger which was a cajun spiced burger with jalepones, house salsa and chipotle sauce. Served on a nice wooden board with fries and a red cabbage coleslaw, the burgers came on a sesame seed bun. On the table we had the usual salt and pepper, squeezy mustard and their own tomato relish. The waitress also brought us tomato and brown sauce. We tried their home made one. Quite fruity, very pleasant. The burgers were tasty. The breakfast one was a bit large for my mouth, but I forced it in. Very nice. The spicy burger could have had a hotter kick for us, probably okay if your not into hot spice.
Most enjoyable, tasty food, great service and good beer and wine. Recommended.

“Best Burger ever”
Reviewed 28 October 2013 via mobile

Through in Edinburgh for theatre and picked this up through itison. Two beautiful chilli bbq bacon burgers with superb sauces and salad on the side. Proper fries.....all beautifully presented with a glass of wine each.Excellent value for a wee nosebag close to the Playhouse. Nice quick service....quiet wee bar on an early evening Sunday. We'd recommend heartily....can still taste those burgers!

“Post-refurb Itison”
Reviewed 26 October 2013

We had an Itison for burgers and a half pint. The burgers were great - they use puddledub farm in Fife but with a mix of pork and beef. They were perfectly cooked - medium and juicy on a brioche bun. The fries were good and the red cabbage slaw was nice. We will definitely be back when passing for a quick lunch.

They have done the bar up really nicely - lots of wood but comfy.

“Presentation good, but quality not there!”
Reviewed 17 October 2013

Went here with the itison voucher. Nice, friendly staff upon entry. This place can definitely be described as a bit of an old man's pub with dark, brown, woody colours.

The food came out reasonably quick - a cheeseburger with fries and red cabbage coleslaw each. Presentation was nice - on a wooden platter, with fries in a little metal bucket. Good value for what it was at only £10. Unfortunately though, there was no Ketchup. Just this tomato relish, pretty tasteless stuff. And all were in a condiment holder with Heinz on the top!

Quality of burger was very average - but I guess you get what you pay for! Fries were ncie and crunchy. pretty sure I found a hair in the red cabbage coleslaw. Also got a half pint of beer (name I cannot spell!) which was OK.

Probably won't be back, but appreciate the visit.
