“Inexpensive place to eat”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

Stopped there for dinner on Tue evening and there were plenty of places to sit. The menu was typical pub fare - nothing stood out but the prices. We ordered a mixed grill and full rack of pork ribs with onion rings & chips, as well as 2 pints for just £21! The food was delivered to the table fast and hot by friendly staff, but that's where the positive comments end. The coleslaw tasted like fish oil, the onion rings were greasy and overcooked, the tiny piece of steak in the grill was also overcooked, and the ribs were slathered in too much (very sweet) bbq sauce. If you're looking for fast, cheap food, this place fits the bill, but that's about it.

“good value, young crowd”
Reviewed 9 May 2014

We had dinner here because of the good location (old town) and value menu - several items priced at 2 for £8.45. The food was good - burger and a steak pie - but not as good as Footlights Pub across the street. The Chanter caters to a younger crowd - mostly students when we were there -we were about the oldest there (mid-50's). The service was good and very prompt. Lots of TVs around if you want to watch the soccer matches. Eclectic decor.

The drinks on tap were great here. The food was also spot on, we all tried the burgers and they were brilliant! Id definitely recommend eating here if in the area and after a really great value meal.
