We stayed at the Brough Hotel for my Boyfriends Birthday and we couldnt have been happier.
The food was excellent, the rooms were charming and clean with very comforatable beds and brilliant showers.
On our second night we sat in the bar having drinks and had the manager, Stuart make us cocktails. He was very entertaining and his cocktails were to die for!!
The staff coudn't have been more helpful and friendly and i think this really adds to a place when it has that homely feel. We felt totally welcome.
All in all I would most certainly return and I would recomend this place to any one wanting a chilled break in Edinburgh.
Thanks to Stuart and his team at the Borough Hotel

I really don't know what all these bad comments are about, my boyfriend and I had a great time at the Borough. We arrived at around 2pm, the room was ready and the receptionist even showed us up to it. We were in room one, which is quite a small but very cosy, quiet room with a nice clean bathroom. The shower was GREAT!
The staff were all very friendly and helpful, the only negative point was, that even though hot breakfast was offered until noon, the chef apparently didn't seem to start working until 9,30 to 10,00am. We wanted to order some french toast at around 9.15 am but were told that it's not possible cause the chef's not here yet.
The hotel was just a very short busride away from the centre and the surroundings were very quiet.
Altogether we had a lovely stay at the Borough and it's definitely great value for money, although we might have catched a quite good deal via laterooms.com

This is the first time I've felt so strongly about a place I've stayed at that I had to comment. I've stayed in all types of accommodation and am usually easily pleased. As long as the room is clean I'm usually happy. Our room was nothing at all like the pictures on here, it felt like a prison cell with metal stairs, bedframes and railings (see attached photo). We had to wait over an hour for our room to be ready even though we arrived about 3.30pm and was told checkin was from 2pm. The room was so small and claustophobic with a loud venting system above which didn't go off till the early hours of the morning. At breakfast we had to ask for more juice, croissants etc as the staff didn't seem bothered when there was none left. It is more than 15 minutes walk into town, more like 30 minutes. Be warned!

Stayed at the Borough hotel for three nights. Don't really know what all of the complaints are about! The bedroom was quite small but very clean as was the bathroom. Oh and shower was fab! Staff were very friendy and welcoming upon our arrival. The internet was free and worked both in the bedrooms and in the bar area. We paid around £120 for 3 nights and thought it was great value for money! Drink and food offers were good, we didnt eat in the restaraunt but the bar food was really nice. Walk to town took about 20 mins. Overall a clean hotel with modern decor and friendly staff!

Will definitley return to the hotel on our next trip to Edinburgh!

When we arrive in Edinburgh by train - I phoned the hotel to check if we could leave our bags until it was time to check in (which we did) bear in mind this hotel is a good 20 mins walk from the centre. When we went back to check in at 5pm we were told that they had been trying to contact us since 10:30 (we dropped the bags off at 12pm) as there had been a flood and our 2 rooms were not habitable. We were told that they had transferred us to a guest house which was 5 minutes away. This turned out to be a 5 minute drive and as we were on foot we had to go by taxi which the hotel said would be paid for. When we arrived the taxi driver had not been given any payment so we had to pay the fayre ourselves. The guest house was just B/B which meant we had to get public transport back to the centre to enable us to have an evening meal. When we checked out the next morning we were charged £10 per room extra than what we were supposed to pay at the Borough. My advice is steer clear. They had obviously double booked the rooms because it was a busy weekend f
with the Scotland - France Rugby game and because of the additional expense they incurred us - we would have been better to have booked a more expensive hotel in the centre of Edinburgh

The Hotel is too far out of the City Centre 20-30 minute walk. When we arrived, they had not got us booked in and it took us hours to sort out with the owner who obviously was not cut out to run a hotel. As we were early to arrive we decided to pop to the pub for a quick drink and a bite to eat and return expecting to go and upack in our respective rooms, but the whole scenario started again with confusion. After we eventually got in, our rooms were tiny with windows frosted out and not very clean. There was no hair dryer, the tea and coffee making facilities was poor - we had to boil the kettle on the floor as the there was no socket where the kettle had been placed with only standard tea bags and decaf coffee. The shower leaked water all over the floor.
The staff were not hotel trained just interested in pulling a pint or making a cocktail. When we went for breakfast, we all had to ask for more milk, cups, coffee to the staff's annoyance. The only plus was that the bed was comfortable and that is all!
We shall not be staying here again and will not recommend anyone to stay here.
