This has to be the best holiday/hotel experience, at least four star. I booked a single en-suite and was given a twin room with en-suite. Pollock Halls are set amongst vast, pleasant gardens; the spotless rooms are cleaned every day; they are tastefully furnished, the tea making facilities are topped up, the lovely, snow white, fluffy towels changed. The reception staff are helpful and well informed, there is a luggage room if required. The food is servery, attended by the Chefs; every type of food/fruit is available to suit all tastes, no miniscule menu here, eat as much as you want. There is a large social clubhouse/restaurant with a veranda and pool tables if required; has a well stocked shop, plenty of car parking space. There is an excellent bus service into town, but it's worth the walk to visit the shops en-route, and the Commenwealth Swimming Pool is on the doorstep

Just stayed here for 2 night and was well worth the money. Rooms were clean, basic, great bathrooms and loved the Arran Aromomatics! Lovely 20 minute walk through Holyrood Park to the centre, and an enjoyable walk up Arthur's Seat for the great views. At breakfast you was spoilt for choice and food nice. Several friends were staying there at the same time and they thought it was great. Reception staff were very helpful on checkin and happy to answer any queries.
Would certainly stay there again.

I really enjoyed staying in this place for 3 nights. The rooms were very clean and modern. I even loved the room and bedsheet colors. house keeping was up to the mark. the window view was great as well. room tv had wide range of channels. above all I loved the surroundings.

They have free wide range of breakfast items.

internet is not free. but with only 15 pound for 7 days you can get wired connection and it is blazingly fast.

the location is perfect. with a 5/10 minutes walk you can get to the Clerk street with full of shops and restaurants and a 20/25 minute of walk will let to the Royal Mile.

Highly recommended for any students.

I attended a conference at the John McIntyre Conference Centre and decided to stay at Edinburgh First, which is also inside the Pollock Halls campus. Edinburgh First is not really a hotel, but student halls. My room was spartan, but decent. The Pollock Halls campus is very nice, and breakfast was excellent. However, the building I stayed at (Chancellors House) was extremely noisy. It was full of school boys, apparently visiting sports teams, who were running through the corridors, shouting to each other, banging doors (even mine) all day and up to early in the morning. The walls are also very thin, which does not help at all. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone but teenagers, because of the noise.

Though most of the staff were friendly, our problem with our room was not addressed. Our shower did not drain, and though maintenance was requested, it was not fixed during our stay. We ended up standing in water while showering, and had to repeatedly turn off the water and wait several minutes for it to drain to avoid flooding the bathroom.

Internet services were expensive, considering the cost of the room (£1 for 15 minutes on a public computer [there was usually a wait], and £5 for one day's access - not based on actual usage, just time - on a private computer).

Additionally, our room was not cleaned after our first night. Though someone came in to make the beds, the rubbish bins were left full and our shower dirty.

First of all locals know this place as a Pollock Halls, not Edinburgh First. Secondly there is Holyrood Road from 5-10 min. walk to north from Holyrood PARK Road where the hotel locates. Don't confound these streets because Holyrood PARK Road cannot be found from city center maps. This way you avoid my hassle.

From the airport you can take local bus 35 but it takes looong time to city center (about an hour). It's nice suburban sightseeing but I won't recommend it if you are in a hurry. You're warned.

The hotel rooms are student apartments that are used as a hotel rooms during their holidays. If you look at the pictures shown here you understand it better. It's a big complex. Clean, simple, chipboard furniture. Water pressure is typical Brittish standard (these people don't know how to build HPAC) but they have Arran Aromatics' soap which is luxurious. But my purpose at being hotel is to sleep not spend my time there so rooms are very suitable. Oh and quit too.

Breakfast is what you could expect from Brittish student cafeteria. Bacon, eggs, sausages, yogurt... Very greasy and no salads but you live with it.

Location is about 20 min. walk from the center and there is good bus connections. It's located just near the Arthur's Seat which I recommend at the sunset. Beautiful views 360 degrees! Note that Arthur's Seat is surrounded by large golf field from the south so check from which direction you go there.

Summa summarium: student accommodation changed into hotel rooms. Clean, quit and simple. Good for those who aren't to keen on luxury.
