I had been to Edinburgh before and stayed downtown. It was not cheap because the 6 Nations Cup was held that weekend.
This time I was planning to be in Edinburgh during the Festival in August. Months ahead rooms downtown were already very expensive. After some searching I came across the possibility of actually staying at the Edinburgh University student homes. We are 2 adults and one child and ideally needed one room for the 3 of us.
The price per night was not that cheap but cheaper than downtown. It included breakfast, free wi-fi and parking (which we did not need) as well as 24 hour check-in possibility and luggage storage. Walking from Pollock Halls to the Royal Mile takes about 30 minutes, mostly because of too many traffic lights!
We had a great stay. We actually had a very modern room with a terrace and a nice view. We had some issues upon checking out but they were dealt with in a very professional manner. Booking ahead recommended!
I really felt like I was a student again, more than 20 years after graduating. Great feeling but I did not get any younger unfortunately.........More
