“Good hotel”

We could park our motorbike on site. Guests pay only 8 pounds for 24 hours. The staff was friendly. The rooms were nice and had coffee/tea. The bathroom was nice and clean. There was even a ducky to play with in the bathtub. Good hotel!!!

We stayed here on the 23/24 July. I will never go back. We paid £284 for a two night stay on a bed and breakfast basis. We arrived at about 9am completely exhausted after flying up from Cardiff. We asked politely if it would be possible to get the first cleaned room so that we could get a few hours sleep. No room available and we were told to come back at 11am. Got back at 11am -no room available. Told to come back at 1pm. Got back at this time - no room available. We eventually got into a room at 2.30pm. During this time there were other guests trying to get into their rooms. All were turned away.
The cooked breakfast was very good but the buffet looked rather miserable.
The room was fine although trying to have a bath was something of a nightmare. The shower partition is lethal.
Like other reviewers we found that the noise from revellers in the Grassmarket square in front of the hotel intrusive as they were shouting until 4 am. There was a jazz festival on and the square looked like a rubbish tip. There were pyramids of rubbish around the litter bins because they had not been emptied.

We had a meal in the `Grain store` ... 1 chicken; 1 steak (4 inches square)- it was gone in four bites; I desert, 2 coffees and three glasses of wine £96 (with `optional tip`).

Big tip!! If booking online with Easyjet be very, very careful that you have put into their booking system exactly what you want. Errors are very costly and its easier than you think to make a mistake. The flights (returns) were £143 but I made an error on the return date and singles back to Cardiff suddenly went up to £259

The location of the hotel is excellent, right behind the Edinburgh castle, some of the rooms have a stunning view at the castle and the Grassmarket. However, these rooms are loud because of street noise and drunken people.
Service is not the best, dirty towels and room floor, no refilling of water bottles or amendments. This is not a 4star Hotel!
Reception is on the first floor, no lift availabe, no helping hands for your suitcase. You have to carry all your things upstairs to the reception. After the reception another 6 steps without help or lift.

Room Tip: rooms with uneven numbers have castle view

Me and my friend wanted something comfortable, but in-expensive, and we couldn't have made a better choice for our 4 nights in Edinburgh. The hotel is very well located near Edinburgh castle. Some of the rooms obviously have a magnificient view towards the castle although our room was facing the inner yard (and it didn't bother us).

We arrived to the hotel by taking the Airlink bus from the airport to Waverley Bridge, and easily walked from there with a map (yes, it was uphills and downhills along the way, but nothing too awful). Walking towards the places of interest always required a walk uphill, but we also sometimes used the sightseeing busses, onto which you can hop-on right opposite the hotel, and hop-off where ever along the route or change to another one with a different route. We highly recommend the Royal Edinburgh Ticket for the sightseeing!

The hotel room was very neat and tidy. We both had a queen-size bed, which felt luxury, and different pillows to choose from. The bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was clean and welcoming with the Apex duck and fresh towels and toiletries.

We ate at the bistro there one evening, and food and service were excellent. The bar there is also very comfortable, had drinks there one night. Breakfast wasn't included in our stay at the hotel, but we did eat it twice during our stay. Very tasty and lovely with the wonderful view to the Edinburgh Castle. However, one minus was that when we were checking out, we were asked to pay for one morning's breakfast for two although we had already paid everything. They did believe us after a short talk.

Good points:
- The hotel has a swimming pool and gym area
- Breakfast is decent
- Decent room size
- Room service is good
- Central location (view of The Castle)

Not so good points:
- Small bathroom
- No airco
- The hall ways are narrow, badly decorated and make me feel like I'm in a prison or student dorm

Overall this was a very high standard of stay with a great deal of thought going into fitting out the room. The rubber duck in the bathroom was a nice touch - thank you. Very comfortable, very chic and perfect for a business or leisure trip, Because this is not a big hotel then breakfast is to order rather than from a hot buffet. I had Eggs Benedict and they were perfect! Staff were friendly and very helpful. 10 mins walk from here into the Centre on the level. WiIl definitely stay here again.
