Stayed in a superior room on the 4th floor which had a balcony and a superb view of the castle. All staff without exception were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very nice and nothing too much trouble. Very close to nice pubs/bars/restaurants but also walking distance to main shopping area. Looking forward to our next stay

Have just returned from 1 night stay at the Apex. requested a castle view room and we were pleasantly upgraded to a superior room with castle view. Room was lovely, everything you need and spotlessly clean. We were fortunate enough to find a parking space in the car park. Staff were exceptional and could not do enough for you. breakfast was first class, plenty to choose from. Went for a swim in the pool, facilities excellent, only thing was my 7 year old could not stand in pool and she can't swim, but would not deter me for future. have stayed in this hotel many years ago and returned due to good experience then and was just as good if not better this weekend. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone as the location is perfect for exploring all areas of Edinburgh. Will be returning during 2014.

Room Tip: Request a castle view, can be a bit noisy at night but well worth it for view. !!

Was very pleased with the location of this hotel, within easy walking distance for shops etc. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were up graded on arrival and had a lovely view of the castle.

Myself and my partner stayed at this hotel for 2 nights over a weekend. Great location for visiting pubs and restaurants in the grass market and not far from princes Street. Our room, however, was very small indeee despite being fairly expensive. On checking in I was told our booking was for 2 separate nights so had to attend at reception the following day to get a new key card - didn't really understand this. Great location, decent hotel but small room and expensive!!

Hotel was not the quality I expected. Very poor decor. Rather austere atmosphere and no character. Really hated the 'smokers corner' in the otherwise nice central courtyard. Room was not worth the money as very scruffy and there was no hair dryer. I tried to call reception with dripping hair but nobody answered in 30 minutes and several attempts. Not good enough. Overall the location is good, but there are much better hotels for the same price in Edinburgh.

Nice hotel in an excellent location. However, we book through Booking.com for 3 nights, the hotel had it for three separate consecutive nights and blamed booking.com. This led to problems with access to the room and when I checked out they would not accept payment for the first two nights meals and parking etc whatever i said. Our friend staying at the same time were charged £70 which the wife paid and then queried. Karen on reception said sorry, the £70 was " in the wrong window" and immediately refunded it but could offer no more explanation. Computer problems are blamed.

Room Tip: Views of the castle rooms are noisy at night, rooms at the back very quiet but no view.

You couldn't find a more comfortable and well-situated place to stay on a visit to see the sights of Edinburgh. It's worth upgrading so you get a view of the castle from your luxurious bed. Rooms are large, clean and very comfortable and the staff are extremely helpful. The breakfast, with a stunning view from the huge windows, is a particular treat. The spa and pool are very small, but that's probably not why you are here! Very reasonably priced for what you get.
