“Great location”
Reviewed 3 December 2013

Loved the location. Grassmarket is nice for a stroll around some old pubs. Walking distance to Edinburgh's main sights. Room clean and big enough for a short break. Bed and pillows too soft for me and my husband but that is just personal taste. Breakfast good choice and plenty of it. All staff we came into contact were friendly and helpful. Would stay again when in Edinburgh.

Stayed in a standard room, views to the back of the hotel overlooking the car park, but I did not plan to spend much time in the room anyway. Views from the front of the hotel have views of Edinburgh Castle, as do the restaurants. Room was small, but clean and comfortable, everything we needed for a short stay.

Car park has limited spaces, so best to arrive early to avoid disappointment. Hotel is located superbly, could not be better. Restaurant food is very good and good value also.

Reception, bar and restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful as you would expect.

I definitely recommend this hotel for a short stay.

Just back from a one-night stay. On check-in we were upgraded to a room with a fantastic view of Edinburgh Castle.
Be aware that the Grassmarket is noisy with people coming out of pubs and clubs, even on a Sunday night! The hotel provides earplugs in recognition of this!
The pool is very small: luckily we had it to ourselves!
Very friendly and helpful staff.

Myself and two girlfriends stayed here for two nights. Located conveniently in the grassmarket it's a great base for a weekend stay. The room itself was on the small size for a triple room and the bathroom positively pokey but that's just nit picking, the view from the room was stunning with the castle dominating the view. Where the hotel fell flat was on the small stuff. Our room was not cleaned properly. An overflowing rubbish bin not emptied, used glasses and tea cups left dirty and not replaced. Little things like not replenishing the toiletries especially given the fact it was a triple room. When I complained I was given a generic 'ill speak to housekeeping' line from front of house that mustered a zero on the concern scale. These are the things I will take from my stay which is a shame as it has as a hotel it has greater potential.

Stayed in a superior room on the 4th floor which had a balcony and a superb view of the castle. All staff without exception were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very nice and nothing too much trouble. Very close to nice pubs/bars/restaurants but also walking distance to main shopping area. Looking forward to our next stay

Have just returned from 1 night stay at the Apex. requested a castle view room and we were pleasantly upgraded to a superior room with castle view. Room was lovely, everything you need and spotlessly clean. We were fortunate enough to find a parking space in the car park. Staff were exceptional and could not do enough for you. breakfast was first class, plenty to choose from. Went for a swim in the pool, facilities excellent, only thing was my 7 year old could not stand in pool and she can't swim, but would not deter me for future. have stayed in this hotel many years ago and returned due to good experience then and was just as good if not better this weekend. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone as the location is perfect for exploring all areas of Edinburgh. Will be returning during 2014.

Room Tip: Request a castle view, can be a bit noisy at night but well worth it for view. !!
