“Great hotel in great location”
Reviewed 29 August 2014 via mobile

Have just come back from a three night stay here and found the hotel to be very good. Amazing location in the old part of Edinburgh, one street away from the royal mile and you can see the castle from the hotel. Rooms were very clean and well stocked elemis products in the bathroom, tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryer etc. we didn't have breakfast in the hotel preferring to go out but we did have a 3 course meal there one night in the metro restaurant which while quiet the food and service were very good and they accept taste card which is always a bonus! We also used the pool and tropicarium which were small but lovely. Overall very happy with out choice :)

We booked two rooms for our family over the Festival in August. Service was good, breakfast was good. And my kids had a great room looking at Edinburgh Castle. The hotel is conveniently located right inthe downtown ore. In fact, it hosted a number of performances during the festival. We loved its close proximity to Tattoo.

I would not rate it luxury, but very convenient and family friendly.

Room Tip: If you love a view, request one overlooking g the castle, but beware, it can be noisy on weekends as...

Receptionist talked so much she kept confusing herself and she was English. Room only had a small double bed and not the castle view room we had requested. No fridge so the bottled water was warm. The mattress was Hollow in the middle so you rolled into centre and the pillows were very lumpy. The trip was very disappointing. We went upto the HEights restaurant for breakfast which we ended up leaving as it was all very dry. We stay in Edinburgh about once a month and won't go back to the apex.

Great location, friendly staff, very clean, great facilities, thoughtful touches. Thoroughly recommend if you're looking for somewhere not too fancy, but still very nice! Why do reviews have to be 200 characters? That's a bit annoying as I don't really have anything else to say.

We were absolutely delighted with our experience at Apex International.
The welcome at reception was very warm and the lady we were greeted by was very friendly and helpful. The room was a really good size, decor etc bang up to date, nice smart bathroom. Free WiFi was really useful for checking transport / timings etc. There's no A/C in the room but Scottish weather doesn't really call for it, I suppose! We didn't eat at the hotel as we were out and about all day, every day (Commonwealth Games) but we had a drink in the bar and the staff were very pleasant and efficient and there was a nice atmosphere.
The location is the best part about this hotel - cafes, restaurants and bars opposite the front door and just a short, scenic walk to the city centre itself. It was great to be just a little walk away as it meant it was pretty peaceful at night. A taxi from the train station was just over £5 - worth it if you have luggage as it's up and over the main mound to get to the hotel from the station.
If you're looking for a base to explore all that Edinburgh has to offer, don't hesitate booking this hotel. The complementary rubber duck is a cute touch!

Room Tip: If you prefer a quieter room, request when booking - we were given a room at the rear of the hotel s...

As a family of four we found the Apex to be the perfect hotel for three nights in Edinburgh. The room, while not huge, had a great view of Edinburgh Castle (definitely request castle view but not if you are bothered by street noise of people shouting when they leave the pub!) through a nice floor to ceiling window that opened and made the room very pleasant. There are many restaurant options nearby and we ate at the sought after Timberyard which was quite the experience.
A nice amenity is the pool (quite small), steam room and gym for a mid priced hotel in a UK city
We ate at the restaurant on our night of arrival, and while the food was fairly average the service was enthusiastic, and the atmosphere pleasant and nice modern decor.
We tried breakfast at the hotel one day but the chef was sick so it was a bit disorganized and not that great. The breakfast restaurant has a really nice setting and view for a hotel. We are not huge hotel breakfast fans and found a couple of local places that were fab (about 20 minutes walk away) – Urban Angel http://www.urban-angel.co.uk (highly recommend) and Milk http://www.cafemilk.co.uk (v good).
If you have a car the hotel has easy parking on the premises and is not too expensive, and you can walk to all the major city attractions so easy to just leave it there for the duration of your stay.

Room Tip: Definitely request castle view as it really enhanced the room, but not if you are bothered by street...

Located just below the Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. The restaurant, lobby and each floor's lobby has floor to ceiling windows with a view of the Edinburgh Castle. Is located on a wide street with benches, trees, and music separating one side from the other. Many restaurants and pubs to choose from and great shopping all the way to the Royal Mile. I also liked it because I was doing some genealogy searching and this hotel was very near the Family History Center where i spent a day being helped by wonderful volunteers looking up information on my Scots connections. Can't remember exactly but think I paid about $100 US per night. Booked with Priceline. I'm a solo woman traveler and I felt very safe here and great location for sightseeing.

Room Tip: My room was in the back without a view. It was cool enough at first I thought it was air condition...
