Stayed there two years in a row. Great service, great people, and great location. Rooms were excellent. The hotel is in the shadow of the castle, with walking distance of the castle, royal mile and pretty much everything you want.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room with a view of the castle

firstly let me say that this a good hotel to stay at,the location is fantastic, with views of the castle, see if you can get a cheap upgrade, the views from the bedrooms are great, the staff are all friendly and helpful, the pool is lovely, and has a small bar, with a large range of whiskies....
across the road their are pubs and restaurant s for all tastes,a slow walk(all uphill)takes you on to the royal mile, and another 15 min stroll takes you down to princes street,
the only down side to staying here, was the price,i love travelling either for short breaks or holidays,so i would like to say that i have a rough idea about hotels,i paid £304 for 2xnights without breakfast, which was a further £13;50 EACH...if you walk out of the front doors and you will find an assortment of places to eat...

Room Tip: upgrade to a deluxe double, floor four or five, the view of the castle is awesome

Our family stayed here in the summer. It is ideally located in the Grassmarket area with many restaurants, pubs and shops just steps away and you have a beautiful view of Edinburgh Castle which is a do-able uphill walk from the hotel. Ask for a room with a view of the castle - stunning especially in evening, but it can be noisy. The excellent sight-seeing Hop On-Hop Off tour bus stop is right out front. For Harry Potter fans, the Elephant Cafe where JK Rowling did some of her writing is a short walk away as is Greyfriar's Kirkyard (cemetery) with Tom Riddle's grave. The hotel has an elevator but you have to climb a set of stairs to get to it, or use the ramp outside. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was standard fare and bit pricier than several spots in the area like Auld Jock's Pie Shoppe, Cafe Jaques or the creperie truck. There is a bar on site with some light fare as well. Rooms are a bit cramped but very nice overall and ours had a fridge to store bottled water etc. Highly recommend it.

This hotel is in the perfect location in old Edinburgh with perfect views of Edinburgh Castle and a nice walk away to the Royal Mile. We were there during the August Festival and the Military Tattoo, so lots of fun events happening. The hop/on bus is right outside the door and there was parking at the hotel. Only drawback to being in the middle of the action, is that some nights the revelers went quite late, but the beautiful views of the city and the Tattoo fireworks were worth it. The hotel staff was absolutely wonderful and most gracious and helpful. The breakfasts were cooked to order as well as a well stocked buffet. Our only disappointment with our stay, was the smallness of the rooms even though they had very comfortable beds and well stocked with complimentary extras like bottle water, chocolates, coffee/tea, etc. We are a family of 4 with two teenage daughters and with our suitcases and bodies, it was a tight fit for five days. Next time we will try a hotel more accommodative with family rooms.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the castle can be noisy. The windows are old and need to be updated.

Stayed here following a relatives wedding in the hotel.
Very easy to book. Courteous staff, spacious clean rooms. Ideal location for Central Edinburgh and a reasonable price too.
The wedding and the reception were handled smoothly and professionally.

This hotel is well equipped with an extremely polite and helpful front desk. Rooms are large, have king beds and the deluxe rooms have a sensational view of the castle from your own balcony. On the downside beware that the rooms are not airconditioned but there is not much else to complain about. Well located and a joy to stay at. I have stayed there on multiple occasions and will happily do so again

Room Tip: Book the deluxe rooms for a great view of Edinburgh Castle

Stayed here in August, room was decent, staff was fine. Great location with a view out the front door of the castle. Walking distance [5 minutes] to the central part of Edinburgh. Did not have breakfast here.
