“Great value city centre hotel”
Reviewed 22 December 2013

Stayed one night on Thurs 19th Dec. Very good location, close to Grassmarket, the castle and Princes Street. Excellent, friendly reception staff. Room 106 was spacious enough, this was a disabled access room and was nice and quiet. Good sized king size bed, although it was 2 singles together so need to watch you don't fall down the gap if they happen to move!
Hotel has a nice small pool and jacuzzi, as well as a sauna and steam room, which we had to ourselves late in the evening. Ice machine on our floor, spare pillows in wardrobe, nice tea making facilities and a fridge in the room which is handy.
Breakfast was pretty good, nice selection of the usual choices.
Hotel does have its own car park, but it is £15 (? per day/24 hrs) but parking in Edinburgh is both a nightmare and expensive so may as well park at the hotel and forget about rushing to top up car parking meters. Pre-paid hotel room and breakfast online - breakfast costs £8.95 pp this way rather than being more expensive if you pay on t.he day
Smooth check-out and would stay here again.

Room Tip: 106 for disabled access and is quiet, to the side/back of the hotel.

I was in town for a week for business, and this provided a good balance of value and quality.
Comfortable bed
Air con worked well
Restaurant was excellent and had a decent variety of well cooked dishes.
There are also small pool, gym, spa facilities.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights using the Tesco Club Card deals. We couldn't make the original booking so Novotel kindly amended our booking.
Hotel is in a lovely area near to the Grassmarket. Within easy walk of all Edinburghs attractions .
There is a small car park underneath the hotel , on a first come first served basis, charge was £15 for our stay.
Our room was massive , although there were only 2 of us, the room could accommodate a family of 4.
Breakfast was lovely, but the best thing about this hotel were the friendliness of the staff. Marvellous , and very knowledgable about the area when we asked directions. Would I recommend , yes . Will I return, definitely !

Stayed one night on business with a colleague. We decided to eat in rather than venture out and the restaurant food was very good indeed. Perfectly cooked king prawns starter and perfectly cooked seabream. Hotel generally was OK and again, the breakfast was very good.

Room Tip: I was on 4th floor, very quiet

Stayed for 1 night on a business trip, room was OK however would not want to stay here any longer as the room I was in (on the 1st floor) was a little tired, in particular the carpet is stained and could have been cleaned. It is the little things which are easy to fix which let this hotel down.

If you are looking to stay at Novotel would suggest the one at 'The Gyle' as this is far better.

Stayed for a three night weekend at under £50 per night, a real bargain for the big well equipped room on the top floor at the back so very quiet. Lyceum theatre and Usher Hall close by but be advised the shops of Princes Street are about 15 mins walk away although it is also possible to use a bus. As has been noted elsewhere there are some sleazy clubs/ pubs close by but we experienced no problems. Breakfast, no thank you, not at over £13 per head, better to go elsewhere. Taxi from airport about £20, the cheaper alternative using the airport bus would involve about a 15 min walk up from the nearest stop.

stayed here for a couple of nights 14th-16th December. Hotel really clean staff very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and bathroom stocked with toiletries. No noise from the road outside. We had room only so cannot rate the food. The reason for going roomonly was that there are plenty of places to get breakfast and lunch etc within a stones throw of the hotel. Edinburgh itself is an amazing city with the old town and the new town covering all tastes...be prepared to walk the city has many little alleys and sometimes we were not even sure how we got from one place to another. The Grass market is around the corner from the hotel and there are a number of pubs and restaurant here, we loved The Beehive but to be honest 2 days was not enough time to visit everything, but one place to go is The Dome on George Street especially at Christmas with it's decorations the atmosphere was brilliant.
