On entrance to this hotel you are immediately dazzled so much by the bright lights and strange seating arrangement that it feels like you are in a car showroom.Everything is open plan which results in a smell of the pool and restaurant mixed together. The rooms are very strangely laid out with a separate toilet away from the bathroom and very minimalist. There is very little storage area,no plug sockets near the bed,the bed was uncomfortable and there was stains on the very worn carpet. Right, thats the bad bits over so now to the good....the staff are excellent, the bathrooms are fine with a separate shower, the pool/sauna/steam/gym are fine, the location is good and the price is good(especially for Edinburgh hotels). For us it served a purpose for our visit but we would not visit again.....sorry.

Visited in February for a mid week break (by train) and wanted somewhere where we could get around easily but without paying tourist city prices for city centre hotels. This proved to be an excellent choice.Staff were very welcoming-the voucher for a complimentary drink was a nice touch and canapes were offered in the bar.The gym and swimming pool were well maintained.Breakfast provided a good choice and was replenished without having to ask.We dont usually eat in hotel restaurants but weather was horrible so we gave it a go as the Novotel menu had been supplemented with some interesting chef specials.
My only negative comment was the size of the bedroom and bathroom which both seem to be smaller than executive rooms in other Novotel hotels.
Location was good,10 minutes walk to old town and castle and buses outside hotel dorect to Holyrood Palace and Leith to see the Royal Yacht Britannia

Good location, good staff, good rooms, and good value. Would stay again.

Very close walking distance to everything in the city, parking is £15 in a secure car park on site payable on exit.

The gym and health spa are good, never tried the restaurant or bar so can't comment on that.

Stayed at hotel in March 2014. Front of house staff were excellent- friendly and professional. Room was smaller than expected. I have never seen such a dirty bathroom in a hotel- dirt in the plug hole and overflow outlet of the basin, the seal on the shower door was filthy, the shower door hinges and some parts of the shower were also dirty. When I phoned down to complain, they offered to have it cleaned or to give us another room. We elected to have it cleaned and it was attended to quickly. Dinner was good, although a bit pricey. Breakfast (buffet) was another disappointment- the scrambled eggs had a greyish tinge and tasted strange (as did the mushrooms and tomatoes) and the brown bread tasted like cheap supermarket bread. Black puddings were sitting in a puddle of grease. The next day I asked for porridge- the bowl arrived with a lid on top. When I lifted the lid, there was frothy liquid round the edge of the porridge and when tasted it, it was clearly undercooked. This is supposed to be one of Scotland's national dishes so goodness knows what tourists will think of it. Pool was ok, but changing room area is small. Hotel run swimming classes for babies which I am all for. Beds were fine- slept ok. Hotel is in quite a good location but I won't be recommending it to friends and family.

Brilliant hotel, excellent breakfast, clean and fresh rooms, reception and bar staff very welcoming, all very professional.
Location not central but in the Old Town and Grassmarket area, very nice for the evening with lovely pubs ans excellent restaurants. Only 10 minutes walk to Royal Mile.

Stayed for 3 nights with friends. Fancy visiting again this summer with my family I enjoyed it that much.
Thank you for making our weekend that little bit more special.
