“Wonderful mini-moon!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 December 2013

We chose the Chester Residence because of the outstanding reviews on Tripadvisor and were not disappointed. We had five nights in one of the penthouse apartments and added the Honeymoon Package on as an extra. Although there is no lift all luggage is carried by the staff very efficiently! We were taken to the apartment and given a tour. The rooms were beautiful with high-end furnishings. Massive rainfall shower, double sinks, stand alone bath for two with built in television and Molton Brown toiletries to top the bath room off! The kitchen has granite work surface, with dishwasher, Nespresso machine, wonderful selection of teas and a wine fridge! The bedroom has a huge bed with ample space for clothes. The servicing of the apartment each day was particularly good and the staff welcoming! The Honeymoon package was a real treat with champagne delivered soon after we arrived. The Honeymoon turn down service included a night sky projector which my partner loved!

The Chester also includes a lounge bar with newspapers. It is about a 10 minute walk from Prince Street and very close to Edinburgh Haymarket station. At Christmas it was particularly magical and we would certainly come back to stay, perhaps for an anniversary!

Room Tip: Penthouse has lovely views but no lift!

Quite simply outstanding!

Just enjoyed a 2 night break at the Chester Residence and it's easy to see why it's rated number 1 on TripAdvisor. I've stayed in similar apartments in the same area, but the Chester Residence are a cut above with the following worth noting:

Service: this is where they stand out. The whole team are well trained, but more importantly genuinely keen to help you and nothing was too much trouble. Not only did they recommend some restaurants when I booked my stay, but also then made reservations for me, and arranged a cab at the appropriate time. On arrival you are greeted and shown to your apartment then given a run through of all the information you need. "Some beers to your room sir? Of course, right away." We were invited to the bar for complimentary canapés and a festive cocktail, a great way to start the evening.

The Apartment: like the service, attention to detail is first class. We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment. Spacious with modern decor and everything you need to have a relaxing stay. Both the bedroom and lounge are perfectly set up to allow complete relaxation. You'll find access to Sky TV which can be controlled wherever you are, and docking stations available for your IPod/phone. The bathroom was very large, with a great shower and bath plus 2 basins. But the piece de resistance was the TV on the wall in front of the bath. Tremendous! Although it does prompt the debate of "is it wrong to drink beer on the loo"! Of course it is if you're on holiday!

Location-wise you're only a 5-10 minute walk from Princess Street, and there's plenty of wee boutiquey shops and pubs to visit around the apartment too.

Worth also mentioning the additional packages you can add. We enjoyed the romantic turn-down service, and the champagne continental breakfast, both were superb and made my wife's birthday that wee bit more special.

In summary, the Chester Residence is class. Expect to be looked after as well as you would be in the likes of Gleneagles or The Old Course, arguably even better than that. I'd recommend it in a minute, and return in a second.

My husband and I stayed at the chester residence in the amazing owner's apartment for two nights on a festive trip to edinburgh and it was absolutely fantastic! The welcome you receive from the front of house staff is better than anywhere else I've been, they explained the route to walk into the centre of edinburgh ( a pleasant 10min walk) and the best places to stop for lunch along the way, showed us around the apartment, called us taxis and offered to book us into restaurants for dinner.I had also asked if they could do something Christmassy in our room when I had originally booked and when we returned from a day out in edinburgh on the second night it was like a grotto, they had decorated the entire apartment beautifully! Every hotel should offer such great customer service but so often they don't or aren't approachable so for me the staff at the Chester residence are spot on and probably the reason why they consistently get such great reviews. The apartment itself was incredible with the HUGE jacuzzi bath and cinema room being the highlights. It was freezing the weekend we visited and the apartment was so warm and welcoming. The bed is extremely comfortable and the street is very quiet so you get a very good night's sleep. I cannot recommend the chester residence enough, it's the only place I'll choose to stay in edinburgh from now on, book it and enjoy it! Merry Christmas :)

I recently travelled to edinbrugh for a night away. I found this hotel through booking.com and booked it before even checking any reviews as the photos said it all. Well when I arrived I must say the staff where tremendous and this carried on for our complete stay. We where then shown to our room and I must admit I was speachless, and its not very often Im lost for words. The room or should I say apartment was 100x better than the photos looked. We had our own private cinema room, open plan living room with a huge tv, a jacuzzi with tv and then the amazing bedroom. Before heading out to our dinner reservation we had a drink in hotel with free canapes, we were waited on hand and foot. We then headead to the wedgewood for a meal, when we had been seated the waitress came with free canapes and a drink complimentary of the chester staff. All in all this was an amazing place with amazing staff, I will deffinatley be back the next time I visit the city.

Room Tip: if you can afford it and are staying here for a couple of days, go for the cinema room

How nice it was to pull up in front of the Chester, after poking around Edinburgh to find it, and have the young man in a kilt open the car door for me and welcome us, clearly knowing when we were due from our Dublin flight. He took the bags right up stairs while we checked in. It would be nice to have valet parking, but it wasn't a big deal to drive to the next block to park ourselves, and with the size of the place, it's probably not practical. Then the woman from the front desk walked us upstairs and showed us the apartment and how everything worked. It is as beautiful as the photographs. We stayed in room 9-2. We had our daughter staying with us from St. Andrews, and asked for a cot to be added to the apartment. 50GBP per night extra, but it was a lovely bed with her own bathrobe and slippers! Really interesting views out the back of people's walled gardens and the other buildings. We could easily walk to the Royal Mile, Mary King's Close, the Palace, etc, and we're in our early 60s. Anything we asked for -- extra coffee or tea, or soap -- was provided promptly. Heated towel rack and floor. Great kitchen with very nice dishes, etc. Wireless worked perfectly. A nice bar area downstairs. It's the kind of apartment that prompts you to start dreaming of living there, entertaining in the big living room with the fabulous big sofa. The staff at the front desk was professional and friendly, and knew how to get to any place we were going. Only problem is, now I'm spoiled!!

Room Tip: 9-2 was up a few flights, not a problem for us. Bright, attractive staircase. We were there in cold...

Had an absolutely amazing stay at Chester Residence. We couldn’t believe our eyes when walking into our apartment at the space we had. Apartment decor was lovely and everything was immaculate. The apartment had all the mod con features, the Molton Brown products in the bathroom are a lovely touch.

We had ordered breakfast to be delivered to the room which was delicious. We also ordered in take away one evening to our apartment which the staff were happy to provide us with local menus and organise delivery. We were invited to the bar one evening which had a great atmosphere, very welcoming. We were provided with some lovely canapés and some delicious cocktails.

I think what makes this hotel is its warm and welcoming staff who are on hand whenever you need them. From the moment I booked the apartment right through to when we left the staff were there to help with a smile on their face. A special mention has to go to Ally for his great banter and wonderful smile.

Can't wait to go back!!!!
