My partner bought me a trip to Edinburgh for Christmas. We had never been before and was very much looking for to it. Piries is in a very ideal part of Edinburgh and seen as we had got the train the walk there is lovely. When we arrived we were given a complementary upgrade in our room and got a suite. It was next door so we were given two keys one for the front door of our building and the other for our room. The room was very spacious with two double beds and a modern bathroom. We were able to see wiring in a divide in the ceiling but it wasn't too much of a problem. That night the room was absolutely freezing, the radiators weren't working and the floor by the window was soaked. We spoke to reception the next morning and by the time we returned after our day out the room was lovely and warm. There wasn't much in the way of choice for breakfast but what was available was of a good standard. Would stay again.

We spent one night here during our stay in Edinburgh, With friends we found the location excellent, tram, buses and trains right around the corner, couldn't have asked for better! Room 50 that we stayed in was on the first floor at the rear in one of the annexes of the main hotel and nothing like the photos on the hotel web site. It was a bit on the small size, with the added bonus of a boiler in the locked cupboard which we found out when we came to sleep as this was on and off all night so a good nights sleep wasn't had by both of us. The shower had mould growing in the grouting and in the sealant, not very nice to look at when showering. When we came down for breakfast the dining room was very small for the size of the hotel. We had to wait around 10 mins for a table as there were only about 10 tables, with only three being able to seat 3 people and all the rest seating 2, saying that the continental breakfast was good.

Four of us (across two rooms) stayed at the Piries for six nights during the very busy Festival/Fringe/Tattoo period, and weren’t disappointed with the hotel.

On the up side, the location is perfect – over the west side of the city, and yet about 20mins/half an hour walk to the hub….but great public transport links – trams, buses, taxis are just a few moments away. Many restaurants and bars nearby.

Our rooms (22 and 37) were very large, with comfy beds offering a good night’s sleep. Extra pillows were available in the room.

The bathrooms were of good size (no bath, though).

The staff were very helpful and accommodating.

On the down side? Breakfast (continental) was adequate; the dining room is a bit small. Also, the bar is, well, rubbish, but there! (No ice one night, no full bottles of wine the other)

Despite the huge rooms, there were no wardrobes/drawers, so we lived out of the suitcase. There was hanging space, though.

There are no lifts – didn’t bother us, but for the less able….?

Finally (and I suppose this is a personal preference) the bathroom had those infernal ‘squirties’ in it – I prefer bars/bottles!

Overall, though, a good choice for the stay, the plusses far outweighing the minuses.

We stayed here for a couple of nights when we went to watch the athletics at Hamden park commonwealth games, it was perfect location for us to get the train to Glasgow - so near the train station, and a walk away from the town centre and Castle. We had a lovely time wandering round Edinburgh and slept well after our long days out! The hotel was perfect for what we needed!

Spent a couple of nights at the Piries Hotel in July - two adults, three children across two rooms;
Would have preferred adjoining rooms but the friendly receptionist did apologise for being busy and that we would be split up; we ended up with a first floor and a basement room. We'd requested an extra bed in one room for our party and sure enough, the rooms were all ready for us when we entered - the first floor room was huge, and whilst the rooms were basic they had adequate and modern facilities. The shower took some working out - fiddly controls - but it was hot and refreshing so nothing major to worry about. There was shower gel in the bathroom though - not often you see that these days!!
There wasn't much in the way of views from either room, which was a shame for such a beautiful city but there's not much the hotel can do about that! The rooms were very light though, with big windows - and thick curtains!!
The beds were a little on the soft side for my liking, and some extra pillows would have been good - though I'm sure if we'd asked, we'd have got extra! We did all sleep well though so again no major complaints.
We had done our research so we were aware of the continental breakfast and lack of wi-fi, but as there are any number of eateries within a 10-minute walk, the limited menu wasn't an issue; wi-fi would have been a bonus but there's so much to see in Edinburgh, a lack of wi-fi wasn't going to worry us!!
The hotel is well connected - Haymarket station and the bus and tram stops are within 5 minutes, with a taxi rank opposite. We had arrived on the train and found the hotel easily - although it's a rabbit warren inside!! - then later used public transport which is a good way to get round the City; tip - ask for a family day ticket on the bus, for our party it was £7.50 and we went all over the place! Taxi fare to the City centre is around the £5.00-£6.00 mark
There is a Scotmid convenience store just round the corner should you wish to snack.
We ate at the Premier Inn, which is about ten minutes away, so didn't try the bar or food facilities at the hotel.
After check-out we were given the option of storing our luggage for free at the hotel, which was a nice touch.
The hotel is a little on the pricey side but we had the convenience of staying close to Edinburgh.
Would be quite happy to stay again - though would probably try to get a deal on the rate next time; we only booked late so didn't have much manoeuvring space but happy enough with our stay

Room Tip: Use public transport - Edinburgh is notoriously busy! Haymarket train station is 5 minutes away, wit...

We really enjoyed our stay in Edinburgh at this hotel. It was clean and spacious and the staff were welcoming and really helpful. It was Family friendly too. Well placed for travel ( very closely situated to Haymarket station) and a quiet location off the High street. Good tram/ bus connections near by for travel to Edinburgh zoo. Highly recommended. We didnt sample breakfast as we ate out -as only continental breakfast was on offer or snacks via room service-so only limitation was the range of option food wise. Otherwise if your happy to eat out if you want more of a range its highly recommended.
