Description: YummyTori opened its flagship branch on Edinburgh’s Lothian Road in June 2012. YummyTori is an exciting new dining and drinking concept for Edinburgh, offering an authentic Japanese izakaya experience in a fun and casual atmosphere. The YummyTori experience is built around authentic Japanese cuisine. We specialise in yakitori skewers, Japanese tapas, imported Japanese drinks (sake, shochu and beers), our own cocktails matched to our food and exceptional service.

Very strange place this - difficult to classify.
Food itself is actually pretty good, although a bit variable (some dishes lovely, some not nice at all) and from a limited Japanese based menu, but with only 1 of 6 staff that evening of Asian origin it just doesn't gel as a experience.
Cocktails (alcoholic & non-alcoholic) are really very interesting & unusual sounding, but actual drinks are like the food, very variable - some great, most not.
Biggest issue is that many items weren't available as they had run out of ingredients (including lemongrass!) and nobody seemed to take charge and manage the situation.
We went as we were advised that on a Saturday evening without any reservation it was probably the best choice in the area for getting a table for 6. That probably says it all.

We appreciate all customers who take the time to write a review about Yummytori. We are glad that you at least enjoyed some of our dishes and drinks. You visited late on a Saturday night and as we had been pretty busy early on we were running low on certain ingredients. However if memory serves correct 2 things were missing one of which was bought within minutes of it being finished. The lemongrass you mention is in fact a ginger and lemongrass cordial which is hard to obtain at short notice for the cocktail that you ordered. Still we apologize for running out.

With regards to your insensitive comment about the race of our staff detracting from your experience, we as a company abide by the law and promote equal opportunities for everyone. Our hiring and firing policy should not and cannot be based around race, creed or ethnic origin.

We took advantage of a Groupon voucher, but wish we hadn't bothered, as this place is excellent value for money.
Yummy tori has a very informal cafe style vibe. You don't need to worry about a dress code!
We were greeted warmly & our cocktails/sake tasting board came in good time, were delicious & of fantastic quality.
We then waited a long time before our food order was taken. The place wasn't busy, we'd just been forgotten! The staff seem to do a lot of running around, doing what, I'm not sure! It's difficult to catch them to make an order. The gentleman sat next to us waited 10 mins for a napkin & didn't get one until he complained. I ordered pork dumplings & had to remind the staff it hadn't arrived after 30 mins.
This is a shame, as the menu is great. Something for everyone, with great set menu & tapas options. The food is great. Fresh, tasty & cooked to order. Deserts of sorbet & ice cream were great too.
However, the service really needs to be better organised, even if the staff are lovely.
If we were in the a Lothian Road area & looking for good value, good tasting food, we would definitely go back, despite the haphazard service!

Thank you for leaving us your review and for your kind words about our food and drinks. We are grateful that you took the time to acknowledge us.

We pride ourselves on the quality we bring to customers on a consistent basis. It appears that your initial experience was very quick and efficient then tailed off. The haphazard service is not to our regular standard which hopefully you can acknowledge by looking at our other good reviews. We like to think that we are welcoming, kind, honest and helpful when it comes to service and this time it seems we let you down. We apologise for this and if you do decide to come back we guarantee you will receive a better experience. Maybe then you will be kind enough to give us those extra 2 stars that we normally deserve.

Came in here last week for the first time, and it was certainly yummy! I had the prawn tempura ramen which was yummy, the octopus dumplings, tempura vegetable and the salmon. All delicious! Will definitely be back! The mocktails are also delicious and refreshing!!

We went for lunch last week

There was no loud music, in fact it was very quiet.

Service was very good and the young waiter spent time with us describing the food and sauces as we were unsure of most of the items on the menu.

It appeared that everything was being cooked to order, whether that is normal or because it was quiet I have no idea.

Between us we had vegetable tempura and two bento boxes, one with three skewers one with five. The boxes came with miso soup to start and a choice of ice creams to finish. The skewers and sauces were really tasty and we enjoyed everything we had.

We thought prices were reasonable and will likely return.

bit apprehensive over what to order at first but the waiter was good and left the menu with us after we had ordered so we could order more, which we did. Things came out at different times so we were not overfaced with food. delicious , spicy yet not overpowering. looking forward to another trip to Edinburgh and another at yummy tori having the dishes i couldnt pronounce.
