“Just like living at home. ”
Reviewed 1 June 2014 via mobile

The staff are great, the atmosphere is relaxed, the beds are lovely - all in all one of my best hostel experiences. Rooms are cheap and the place is relatively close to the main city.

I was sick as well as needing to dry out all my camping gear, and the staff were more than accommodating. I'd definitely stay here again.

This is by far the best hostel I've stayed at - the staff are all very nice and welcoming, the hostel is soo clean and the lounge, which feels just like a living room, is great for meeting people. I stayed in the en-suite dorm and it was spacious and nice with comfortable beds and big, free lockers. The hostel was really calm at night as it's located right outside of the city centre (still just a short walk away from all the attractions), and people are supposed to stay quiet after 11pm.

In short, this is a homely, clean and calm hostel perfectly located, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again!

Despite arriving late, we were given a very warm welcome by a lovely member of staff. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the lockers are a good size, and the lounge is like a living room. While shoes aren't allowed inside, (slippers are provided) this really made the hostel feel very homely - even though I was there less than 12 hours I felt totally chilled out and comfortable. Breakfast was very much appreciated, and having a dishwasher was definitely a bonus!

The staff were really helpful and welcoming. I arrived late the first night and my bed was made for me. The free breakfast was great and the communal areas were comfy and good to meet people. The beds were comfy, we stayed in the en-suite room. This was great for getting ready in the morning as we didn't have to wait for a shower. The hostel was extremely clean and the lockers were free and really big. Definitely staying here the next time we are in Edinburgh. The no shoe rule made it feel like home. The rooms were really warm at night.

I have been about a week in the Light House Hostel and I can say it is definitely the best hostel I have ever been to. The place is clean, the beds are really comfortable, the rooms are spacious and the lockers on the rooms are big enough to keep safe your personal stuff.

That being said, the Light House Hostel wouldn't be that brilliant if they had another staff members. All the members are hard-working, friendly and constantly ready to provide a nice and a warm service. Gavin and the three girls are great and they create a comfy atmosphere for any guest -wherever they come from, whatever is the reason why they are in Edinburgh. If I was the owner, I would feel lucky. They just make you feel like at home :)

Do not doubt to book at the Light House if you are around the city and seeking for a cheap, clean and genuinely pleasent hostel.

Light House Hostel was definitely a great choice in Edinburgh. Extremely clean, very helpful staff and location is also great, not mentioning the low prices compared to other options. The city is amazing and I recommend you to stay at this hostel.

The Light House is the perfect place to sleep in Edinburgh. Just outside city centre, it's quiet and comfortable, but not so far as to be inconvenient. You can easily walk to the castle in 15-20 min. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the place is extremely clean. The beds are comfortable, and some rooms have their own en-suite bathrooms. The kitchen is awesome, and they offer breakfast every morning.

The Light House is a truly unique place to stay - our bright young team will welcome you to our beautiful Georgian townhouse bursting with character and charm. We have created a fusion of contemporary living space with good old fashioned family hospitality. Our guests often say it's more like a family home than a hostel, with a laid back attitude and cosy friendly atmosphere. The Light House is the place to chill out and make new friends. We are only 15 minutes' walk to Edinburgh Castle. Reception is open from 7am to 10pm and check in time is from 3pm to 10pm. If you arrive in the city before 3pm, please feel free to drop off your luggage and we will give you a map and introduction to Edinburgh, then come back after 3pm to check in. We aim to provide a good night's sleep for our guests so that everyone feels refreshed the next day to explore the city or to continue with their onward journey. Therefore there is strictly no check in after 10pm. If you plan to arrive after 10pm, then please do not book with us. This rule can be extended to 11pm in case of delays in transportation. After 11pm there will be no entry until the following day. The Light House is a loving, caring and sharing place to be - we donate 10% of our profit to a housing charity. So when you stay with us, you are also helping to provide homes for people in need. We are situated in the artistic area of the city centre. Nearby are 4 cinemas, 3 theatres, a concert hall, a wide selection of restaurants, bars, coffee houses - and a co-operative super market that opens till 10pm for your essential supplies! The communal living areas are clean and cosy providing a great space to relax and unwind after a busy day of sightseeing. We have a spacious comfy lounge where you can relax and enjoy a wide selection of movies on our home cinema system with HD projector and surround sound. We have a fully equipped self catering kitchen including a dish washer...... so no need to wash up, Yey! There is also a large back garden where we host regular campfires and BBQs - so bring your guitars and best (or worst) singing voices and join us for a good old sing along around the fire; dancing is optional! We operate a no shoes policy in The Light House to keep the house in spotless order, a shoe rack and slippers are provided at the entrance making it feel like a real home from home. There is a no smoking policy throughout the hostel with smoking area in the front garden. There is no curfew. However, we are not a party hostel, therefore the communal areas are locked at midnight and we request that guests be very quiet when returning after midnight, this is to ensure other guests who are sleeping are not disturbed.
