Description: "Fresh, bright, and delicious" The Edinburgh Larder Bistro on Alva Street at the west end corner of Prince’s Street, with its light interior and conservatory, is the ideal place to enjoy seasonal, Scottish food! The Edinburgh Larder team works closely with local farmers, fishmongers, fruit, vegetable and drinks suppliers to bring you the best of local Scottish produce. With a regularly changing seasonal menu and daily market specials, you will experience the delicious flavours of the Scottish countryside. The buzzy atmosphere of The Edinburgh Larder Bistro is the perfect ambience to unwind as you clear your plate of daily specials and menu favourites, and quench your thirst - try one of the incredible botanical drinks produced in Scotland (Edinburgh Gin and Pincer Vodka are our favourites!); Scotch malt whiskies; or Scottish brewed beers. There's a range of carefully selected wines and fizz - we specialise in sourcing interesting bottles from small artisan vineyards, and we make our own cordials, and serve Edinburgh-based Artisan Roast coffees and Eteaket teas.

The food and atmosphere has a nice mix of modern hip mixed with traditional Scottish. The food was delicious, with complex and well developed flavors. We made reservations for a 2 hour meal before going to the Tattoo. The service was quick, but not rushed, and they had us out the door in plenty of time to walk to the Tattoo stadium. We had a 3 course meal (starter, main, dessert) with before and after dinner drinks (cost about 85 pounds for 2). There are more expensive restaurants in Edinburgh, but I don't think you'll find one with such high quality of ingredients, creative traditional menu or quaint hip atmosphere.
By the way - order the gin homemade cocktails ....they are served in a gin teapot and china teacups!

Although the menu is fairly limited, the quality of the food was excellent, service friendly and it was reasonably fast.

Gorgeous fresh organic food, lovely decor and great service. Would return without hesitation. Loved the sourcing of organic produce and the simple way the dished were presented. Great flavours without being pretentious. Good central location.

The Edinburgh Larder Bistro has a beautiful ambience with home-made cocktails and foraged delicacies on the menu.

Warm and friendly service and well worth a visit.

It's a nice rustic space, light, airy, and very distinctive. It has the potential to be one of the city's hidden gems, alas, no amount of leaves and edible flowers will compensate for tiny, overpriced portions of - albeit very pretty - mediocre food. The waitress was very nice, although it took her three goes before she finally brought us the correct main courses (which arrived about 40 minutes after the starters were cleared).

A few more classics on the menu, and slightly less stingy portions, and this could be a lovely wee restaurant - as it stands though, it just doesn't really work.
