“A very nice lunch”
Reviewed 14 August 2014 via mobile

Used an itison deal to try out Galvin Brasserie for the first time. Have always been meaning to go but it looked pricey so 2 rump steaks & chips plus a glass of wine for £29 sounded value for money. In a nut shell, it was! Would I pay the £58 price that it was meant to be, no!

We ordered a sweetcorn velouté soup which was delicious once it arrived. Our mains happened to arrive before the soup but this was sorted out without fuss but no apology. The bread that is offered is amazing & a second helping was very welcome. The steak was tender & the chips were crisp & tasty. Portions were small which was fine for the deal but not if paying full price. The rose wine as part of the deal was delicious & well priced at £5 for additional glasses. So 1 soup, 2 rump steaks & 4 glasses of wine cost us £50 on the deal but would have been £74 normally. VFM at £59 but not at £74 for that lunch.

“Almost 5 stars”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

We enjoyed a family meal at Galvin using a voucher from Itison. Five of us dined on their steak frites deal. The restaurant was busy but service was generally efficient and friendly.
We had all ordered our steaks medium rare but four came medium which was a surprise in a restaurant of this standing. However the staff could not have been more helpful and they resolved this to our complete satisfaction - going beyond what we expected to be honest. When little mistakes happen I feel you remember how they were resolved and Galvin did this perfectly.
The beef was delicious and we then enjoyed a variety of desserts and cheeses with the apricot souffle being particularly memorable. Without the deal the menu is a bit pricey but overall a good meal.
So great food, almost perfect experience and happy to recommend.

“Very good but a little pricey”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

Very much enjoyed a steak & chips dinner with a small glass of wine on an ITISON deal - £29 for two people. A great deal! We also chose 2 starters from the menu - the haggis and the crab & lobster lasagne - delicious, as was the house wine. The service was friendly and efficient and there was a nice buzz in the restaurant on Friday night

Although the menu was quite pricey (if not on a deal) I would still recommend as it really was very good overall.

“avoid dinner during festival”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

Hmmm. I think this place is good value for lunch. We had eaten here when it was first opened, and it was better then. We booked through 5pm but only the full a la carte menu was offered. 10% added to bill automatically really annoys me. Service was good, but not great. It's hard for me to see past the fact that I was terribly sick during the night, which I have no doubt was caused by the oysters I had as a starter. I should have avoided them in august, but still.....duck main was fine, but not the sausage with it, was like a hot dog and was horrible. It was just too expensive, and aimed at rich American tourists staying at the hotel. It is difficult to eat well in Edinburgh during the festival so we deliberately went up market, it didn't really pay off.

“Lunch in Town”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

The service from the moment we walked in the door for this Express Lunch was excellent and the food although small portions was delicious and well presented and included a small glass of wine. Good value for money although the coffee which was an extra was a little on the pricey side. Would certainly return.
