Had bought vouchers for both deals as I foolishly believed this to be an upmarket venue! Read some bad reviews so went with a bit of trepidation but thought might as well use the vouchers anyway and make up my own mind! First let's discuss the afternoon tea. This had no resemblance to the rather tempting picture displayed. Everything was poor shop bought and the scones were tiny along with uninspiring sandwiches. Now I'll come to the 3 course Sunday lunch. My partner started with very watery soup and was given a child's spoon to eat with! I chose the roast vegetable terrine which may sound nice but believe me this was truly awful both in appearance and in flavour - or should I say lack of? Our mains were sea bass served with a tiny amount of veg and crushed potatoes. The whole meal was tasteless and soggy and was unable to finish it. We decided to take the safe option of the cheeseboard with little oatcakes instead of dessert and this actually was OK - perhaps because it was not cooked! I don't understand why this place was so busy considering the poor quality- although I think some may be regulars!!! A waste of what could be a lovely dining venue considering the view to the castle. Sorry but won't be back.
