“Decent local restaurant with a good bar”
Reviewed 6 August 2013

Bon Vivant is a classic local restaurant -- small and cosy, reasonable menu with a few interesting items, some quirky cocktails and at the top end of average in terms of price. It's pretty noisy, with a popular bar competing with as many tables as possible crammed into the space. Service was relaxed (maybe a bit too relaxed, sorry -- the 10 minute wait to pay at the end became irritating) but for dinner with a group of pals in the Stocksbridge area it's a good choice, and friends who live locally say it's reliably consistent and a favoured spot. Kinda midway between a gastropub and a full blown restaurant.

“Cosier than the Thistle Street version”
Reviewed 1 August 2013

This is one of two BV's in towns and in my opinion the best. It's quieter and less frenetic than the one up in Thistle Street. The place has a more relaxed feel about it and is very chilled. Lots of dark wood and refinement compared to the Thistle Street branch.

There is a greta selection of wines on offer, most by the glass and a good range of fizz too. The food I have not tried here but the Thistle Street branch does great food. Unfortunately there was a chef/kitchen issue the night I went to eat here so was not able to test the food.

The dark corners make it a romantic spot too. A grand place to visit all round though.

“Great Atmosphere”
Reviewed 18 July 2013

Popped in with the dog one day and had a delious bottle of red, staff are great/friendly. Very clean and loved the feel of the place so booked a meal to celebrate, came back with the dog again and partner and had an amazing meal. Would recommend this to anyone wanting a small atmospheric bar with good banter. Had a few snacks as well - lovely. Very friendly people drink and eat in there as well.

“Small but perfectly formed”

Tasty tapas and a great selection of mains, good wine list too! Service was good with a decent break between courses.

“Very good value and high quality in a friendly atmosphere”
Reviewed 13 July 2013

We popped in for an early evening meal and were most impressed by the food on offer. Before we have had the snacks and starters but this time we opted for the main courses - the steak au poivre was excellent, as was the lamb. It still has some of the cosy atmosphere of Avoca and noen of the noise of the Thistle Street Branch. Worth another try!
