In the evening, you can come here for dinner or just for a drink.
I really recommend the cocktails. The cocktail list is not extensive, but standard cocktails are prepared on request.
Relaxed atmosphere, good service. Worth a visit.

In Edinburgh for the fringe festival and staying with friends. We were invited to eat at their local. Expecting a local hostelry, I was delighted to find a truly friendly and cosy bar, with a very good restaurant menu.
The staff who were well known to my host (the local) were friendly and informative with menu choices. The menu itself changed daily, and proved to be as good as promised. The chef advised us what would probably be on the menu for the next day, sea bass. We returned and it was excellent
Bon Vivant is obviously not a one visit establishment, you need at least a couple of visits to sample the variety of menu choices, and a whole range of drinks and cocktails.
You couldn't get bored here.
Waiting for our next trip.

If you're looking for a relaxed drink then this place is for you. It's quite dark inside but with lots of candles everywhere (even in the loos) which creates a really cosy ambiance.

We visited as a group of 12 friends for dinner and drinks. The menu changes daily so I can only comment on what we had on our visit but the food fantastic, it all came to the table at the same time, hot and looking mighty fine! The staff were very friendly and none of our requests was a bother to them. Nothing matches, the plates are all different, the napkins are dish towels, there are a few quirky details, be warned!

We all came away very happy, feeling well fed and watered. Drinks are not cheap but they do have a decent selection of cocktails to choose from amongst the usual wine and beer offerings.

Oh, and there's a Serrano ham sitting on the bar just waiting to be carved...

Bon Vivant is a classic local restaurant -- small and cosy, reasonable menu with a few interesting items, some quirky cocktails and at the top end of average in terms of price. It's pretty noisy, with a popular bar competing with as many tables as possible crammed into the space. Service was relaxed (maybe a bit too relaxed, sorry -- the 10 minute wait to pay at the end became irritating) but for dinner with a group of pals in the Stocksbridge area it's a good choice, and friends who live locally say it's reliably consistent and a favoured spot. Kinda midway between a gastropub and a full blown restaurant.
