“Fantastic new hotel in Town Centre”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 September 2013

Relatively new hotel from a German based chain. Really convenient near Waverly Station and close for either the Old Town or the New Town. Prices are very competitive during off season and to be fair even during the Festival period ) if you can get a booking). Room design is contemporary and while new it is fine it is likely that the quality of the furnishings may suffer through use so watch out in a couple of years (think Ibis or Travelodge). Bizarre thing with the lift numbers and floor numbers which are out of phase - a clash of UK and continental floor numbering systems I believe.
Staff very efficient and friendly - bar not that good but it's Edinburgh and the choice is really endless so not really a problem.

Because of price and location it is likely to become a haunt of weekend Stag/Hen parties so maybe not so good at certain times but not a detraction from the hotel itself.

We stayed at Motel one on a short trip to Edinburgh- it was a busy time with the Tattoo and the Festival. We were so central and had easy access to the Royal Mile and the Castle as well as restaurants and shops. I cannot fault the hotel- room was small with no view but clean, comfortable and quiet. The fresh aqua blue and brown decor give it a contemporary feel and service was good. I would not stay anywhere else in Edinburgh.

Room Tip: We were happy with an inward facing room - with the city being so busy I think we avoided the noise...

We found this hotel very clean, and with friendly staff. The rooms were spacious minimal furniture but ample room for hanging your clothes (take some hangers) and we did have enough shelf space.
Only downside was the pillows were large BUT very flat and uncomfortable.

Room Tip: We were both pleasantly surprised by the spacious rooms and they were very clean large windows showe...

We booked through hotel's website, couldn't get the bedding that we wanted, but when we reached there the receptionist is kind to help us find bedding preference. Great location, just 5 minutes walk from Edinburgh train station. Lots of restaurants nearby, walking distance to Royal Mile and Princess Street. Would recommend to anyone who like to stay in the heart of the city, closer to major attractions.

The hotel is two minutes from the train station and the airport bus. Right in the center of the city. Rooms are comfortable and the staff is pleasant. Do not take the breakfast!! it is very over priced and not much selection. There are lots of places to eat right around the corner. A great hotel and I would stay there again.

We went for the Tattoo and found this hotel to be the best location for all our activities. The airport bus stops across the street. The rooms were new and with an excellent 7,5 euro breakfast. It is a short uphill hike to the main street with its many places to eat or to the castle or Hollyrood House and a short walk across the bridge/ train tracks leads to another fascinating night time eating location.

Room Tip: Just make sure you can navigate a steep hill.

I stayed here for two weeks during the Edinburgh Festival this year. The Motel One was a pretty cheap option (about £120 a night), which is a lot higher than usual, but to be expected during the festival. I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived. It is 60 seconds walk from the railway station exit. There is a small bar, which sells only one kind of food - toasties! The place looks new (or newly refurbished). I got a room on the 7th floor, but wished I had asked for something on the 2nd floor. My room window faced the back of the Royal Mile and was a little too public for my liking.

POSITIVES
The room itself was perfectly nice and clean. It was a decent size and enough for one person. The bathroom was nice. Good layout. No bath, just a shower. They only provide one type of toiletry, which is a "hair and body wash" in tiny bottles. No soap or shampoo. The double bed was OK, but not a queen size that I had booked. Just a regular double. TV had quite a few channels - mainly Freeview ones plus some foreign ones too. The room had a nice useful table and free coffee and tea making facilities. There are several outlet sockets in the room, including a Euro socket, which would help those who come from mainland Europe.

You can get anywhere in central Edinburgh from here quite easily. Most places in the centre are walking distance and the only annoyance is having to climb the hilly terrain, but that's unavoidable in Edinburgh.

There are convenient shops, pharmacies, restaurants very close by.

NEGATIVES
There is no bin in the bedroom for some reason! Maybe that was just my room with this problem. There is no wardrobe. You just have a couple of small, exposed hanging rails on either side of the bed. There is no aircon - or rather the controls don't work. It was summer, so not sure why they hadn't got it working. There is no iron or ironing board. You can get an iron for £10 deposit and a board for £10 deposit. You can get it back once you hand them back to reception. Pillows were a bit thin.

Overall, this is a nice place to stay if you don't mind a few creature comforts. Clean, good location and the price is good for what you're getting.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms can be convenient.
