“Great value for money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 February 2014

£69 per night for a central hotel in a major city is excellent. The rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. As the hotel is where the airport bus leaves/arrives it is a prime position. Not to mention it is easy walking distance to everywhere central. Highly recommend.

I don't think you could get a better location! There's an entrance to the train station a couple of minutes up the road. It's facing one of the bridges over to Princes Street & it's a 5 minute walk from the Royal Mile! The rooms were very clean & tidy. Lovely modern bathroom & a really good shower. All the staff we spoke to were helpful & friendly. Nothing we could fault!

Was expecting a lot more from this hotel. But was disappointed straight Away. Nothing special on first appearances. But the main thing that miffed me off was the room size. Paid for the more expensive room as well, but it only measured 2 n a bit metres across. And 3 the other way. Not even enough room for 2 suit cases on the floor. Bathroom was nice with a big walk in shower but that was the only good thing I liked.

Location, location location! The hotel deserves 5 stars for the location. We travelled from London to Edinburgh by train and the hotel was just across the train station between Royal Mile and Princess Street. During our 3 days-long stay in Edinburgh, we did not need to use any transportation as every landmark was in walking distance.

The room was modernly decorated and neat. The bathroom was so charming with black&white tiles. The kettle in the room was life-saving in the cold of Edinburgh. The only dissapointment was the location of the room. Prior to the arrival to the hotel (like 1 month ago), we requested to have a room with a view. But the view we had was the wall of the next building! I would have felt better if our request had been taken into account.

Anyway, despite of the view, our stay at this hotel was lovely!

This hotel has a great location, it's probably it's biggest selling point. A stone's throw from the train station, very close to the Royal Mile etc.
We had a city view room and was worth paying extra for as the view was amazing - a kind of view you'd pay at lot more for usually. The facilities are great, I would describe it as the German equivalent of a Premier Inn style of hotel but perhaps a little more modern and nicer.
There are some niggles but only slight. For instance the power point is nowhere near the kettle so we had to balance the kettle on a stool to make a drink! The shower pressure was not great and temperature flunctuated a little. Perhaps having all of the walls white was not a good idea as there are black marks already (and this hotel is quite new.) Overall though these are minor points and the hotel is excellent value considering it's location.

Room Tip: Get a city view room if you can as the views are great.

Fed up with paying upwards of £100 for beige walls and pastel prints of petunias I decided I'd try something different.

From the brisk, friendly service to the central location and stylish, comfortable room, Motel One gets everything right. I've stated in places three times as expensive that were no better, most notably a nationally famous hotel just around the corner. I'll be back..

We stayed here for two nights between Christmas and New Year 2013 and were very happy with our experience. On first arrival we were given a room close to the New Year funfair which was very loud and they moved us straight away. The room was nice; modern and clean with a great bathroom/shower. We booked a double but had two single beds pushed together, which isn't the end of the world and we slept well anyway. The location is an absolute highlight of this hotel, it's a stones throw away from the train station (but you can't hear it) and a short 5 minute walk to the main shopping area in Edinburgh. We could easily go out all day, pop back for a refresh before the evening and go back out again without breaking a sweat or getting a taxi. If you want a great location and a very nice hotel at a good price I'd recommend this one. p.s. try out the burgers and unique drinks at nearby 'Jakes Place', they're amazing.
