“Amazing location - Great hotel!”
Reviewed 20 May 2014

Motel One is located perfectly in the heart of Edinburgh! The air coach is right outside the door and just across from central station. Princess street is just across the bridge, very short walk, and the old town just behind the hotel. Nestled in the middle of plenty of tourist attractions. The walk down from Edinburgh Castle is just beautiful, the town was buzzing!
The staff were so accommodating and friendly. Really couldn't fault them!
The size of the hotel is deceiving from the outside, it is HUGE but very easy to navigate around! The corridors were very warm however the rooms were air conditioned so we could change the temp easily!
Our room was lovely, the shower tended to splurt hot and cold water but it was really strong, (and mostly hot water was coming out! I love my showers and this didn't really affect me much!) We requested a late check out too and this was absolutely no problem which really suited us as we had a late flight on the Sunday evening.

The bar staff were great, funny an friendly.

Great hotel with fab décor and great staff! Will most definitely be re-visiting and have already recommended to a few friends! :)

Room Tip: Request a window (front) room to take in the Edinburgh views! :)

We stayed one night. Very comfortable large room overlooking the centre of Edinburgh. Noise from the station was eliminated by good double glazing. Perfect location for walking round old Edinburgh - hopped on the airport bus next morning from just down the street.

The good bits - location, decor and efficient reception - this should be a very nice place to stay, for all the reasons most reviewers have indicate.

The terrible bits that brought the score right down. For a year now there have been reviews commenting on the rooms being very hot and no way to regulate temperature. Our room was so hot I even had to get undressed to bear being in the bathroom. We opened the tiny window and still it was oppressive. The "air conditioning" controls on teh wall didn't seem to work and when I complained i was told that as May is still "Scottish Winter" the heating was on, could not be turned off and there was nothing that could be done. We were offered a chnage of room but as all the corridors were boing hot too this did not seem like the answer. The staff are very polite but it is as if anything they don't want to hear doesn't register. A more proactive receptinist found a fan heater for us and suggested we use it as a fan on zero temperature, which helped a bit but this really spoled our stay. I was really concerned that this problem has existed accorig to reviews on here since last wummer and nothing has been done. Despite the controls on the wall there is no in room temperature regulation fitted.

On the second day we came back to our room at 4.15 to find it had not been cleaned etc. WE met the maids in the corridor and when we pointed out we wanted to shower rest and go out again they just pretended not to understand and asked if we wanted the room cleaned that day.!!!!! They then hared off to the other end of the corridor without a word of explanation or apology, again reception expressed concern but no explanation, and we had to sit in reception and buy drinks for 45 mins or so until it was sorted out.

I woldn't stay here again unless we had an asurance taht the temperature control problem was resolved.

The hotel is perfectly located between the old town and the new town, just across the central station. The staff is extremely nice and helpful.
We booked a room with a view, and when we weren't happy with the room we got as the window was very tiny and the heating was broken, the staff at the reception very kindly offered to move us into another room. The second room was way more spacious, and made our stay flawless.
Very young and friendly atmosphere. A definite win.

Room Tip: Rooms with city view are quite small and the windows are so tiny you can barely see the city. Better...

Moderately priced, Motel one is complete value for money and more.
Located in the old district near railway station, It is at the cross point of old world historical monuments and fashionable Princess street. The airport shuttle bus stops just 10 meters from the hotel. Most of historical sights are located within few minutes walking distance.
My view was magnificent and included Sir William Scots monument. The building exterior has a gothic appearance and is modern from inside. The staff was friendly and efficient. I would definitely stay there again.

The room was small but big enough for the two of us for our short stay.It was clean,AND the window opened! I was confused by the plug sockets
, they were half way up the wall.To make coffee, I had to balance the kettle on the soft stool so that I could plug it in.The continental breakfast was good, it was fresh and you could eat as much as you liked.

Motel One locates in the old district near railway station and just opposite to the Princes street and new district of the town. Lots of historical sights also locate in few minutes walking distance. The airport shuttle bus stop locates just 10 meters from the hotel and needs no previous booking or ordering, just hop on and pay 4 pounds for the trip directly to the airport.

Rooms are clean, modern and minimal. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

If you are planning your short trip (2-3 nights) to Edinburgh then this hotel is suitable for it. I definitely recommend it. While booking your room please ask additional information about the room location. Some rooms locate towards old town and you'll experience rather dark room with a view of opposite building wall.
