“Give this a try”
Reviewed 26 January 2014

Was really excited to see that a new Korean had been opened in Edinburgh. This did not disappoint, especially when you hear that it is the same people who ran the wee takeway on Buccleuch street.

The food and service was fantastic plus great value indeed. would have preferred a BBQ table, but did not stop our enjoyment of the food.

Can't wait to go back

“A brilliant new find”
Reviewed 19 January 2014 via mobile

We took a chance and popped in here for lunch on a Sunday recently, not knowing anything about it. So glad we did. Beautiful food, really lovely friendly & accommodating staff. They were happy to explain all the dishes to us & for us to order the barbecue dish (it's not officially part of the lunch menu) - great experience cooking our own food in the middle of the table! We were even given a free dessert as it was new on the menu & they wanted to get our opinion on it. Very reasonably priced & BYOB which keeps the cost down even more. A brilliant new find. We will be back.

“"Give them a 5, Jesus Man"...”
Reviewed 5 January 2014 via mobile

...is what my friend shouted at me as I tried to think of what could have been improved at Ong Gie while I determined whether it should only be given 4/5.

So, there you have it, we couldn't think of how it could be improved. The service is excellent; friendly, welcoming and unobtrusive. When I ordered the seafood stew with crispy rice the waitresses eyes lit up as she exclaimed it was her favourite. And it was very, very good. First time I've had crispy rice and the chef came out to explain how he makes it. He also explained he uses no MSG which explained why all the good tasted so fresh.

Fresh really was the byword of this place, the food tasted clean and tasted of what it was supposed to. My friend had a pork dish which was also delicious, tender and just the right portion size.

So, altogether, highly recommended. It's BYOB (shop over the road sells a reasonable selection) which is always a bonus. Also, we ended up here because the other nearby TA recommendations were all closed (10pm on a Saturday night!) Service at Ong Gie is until 11pm and although we were the last in and last out we never felt rushed.

Go, you won't regret it. Great food, great service, great value, great experience.

“Excellent”
Reviewed 27 December 2013 via mobile

This restaurant is BYOB. The mistress gives a great welcome and
couldn't be more helpful with the
menu. The starter we chose was excellent - the Spring rolls had a subtlety different taste and pancakes were delicious. The main
Courses to were delicious. Both
The pork and chicken were amazing
All in all a great little restaurant. Will definately be back.
