After hearing good things I was excited to try out the Scran and Scallie.
Visited on a week night, tried to book but was advised no reservations were taken during the week. Arrived and was advised to have a drink in the bar and that we would be seated asap. Didn't even have time to order a drink as our table was straight away ready which was great.
Good selection of drinks and wines, fairly small food menu.
Myself and partner both had lobster to start which was delicious (although you can't really get lobster wrong)
Main course my other half had a steak which he said was okay, very fatty, had better steak in lots of places. I opted for the pie which was watery and lacking in meat. After adding a couple of sides ( mash and cauliflower cheese ) I think £25 is ridiculous. Especially when the standard was no better than a cheap local pub.
My sticky toffee pudding for desert was dry and basic, did bring this up with the waiter who agreed it was overcooked and kindly gave us complimentary coffees.
Nice informal relaxed service from the waiting staff which I did like. But unfortunately there are far far better gastro pubs in Edinburgh - or even restaurants where you'll pay far less.
