We chose this place because of TripAdvisor and local newspaper reviews and were glad we did. The girl and I were on a jolly day trip from the Toon and after a morning of exhibitions and walking under the usual grey Edinburgh skies this side street bistro was a great place to relax and enjoy the best of Scottish cuisine.
Service is friendly and informative with good pace. The lunch menu has 4 choices for each course with an emphasis on simple, local produce.
The girl had sea trout salad starter with lamb and barley main. I had a comforting starter of cheese on toast with egg and ham followed by steak and potatoes. Puddings were delicious ice creamy, chocolate things. Coffee was cheap and very powerful.
3 courses at lunch are £18.50. It is difficult to imagine better quality at this price, especially given the location about 100 yards away from the tourist traps of the Royal Mile. If you are in the area or live thereabouts, just go and enjoy yourself....
