“Great location”
Reviewed 11 June 2014

This hotel is located near the Royal Mile. We enjoyed our stay here and would stay here again if we return to Scotland. The parking isn't a big deal. Be sure to pull up in front of the hotel initially and have them direct you to the parking garage.

Yes, you have a view of the castle. But getting to the heart of the city (not the nearby strip clubs) is nearly a 20 minute walk.

My husband has Hilton diamond status, so we chose to go with a hotel within the Hilton family. The Double Tree didn't live up to my expectations. When we arrived in our room, it smelled of smoke. I looked out the window to admire the view and saw cigarette butts that had been left on the sill by the previous guests. The toilet also didn't appear to have been properly flushed. We returned to reception with our bags, and were given an apology, a couple extra drink vouchers and the keys to the room next door.

The second room had a much larger window, but the tv attached to the end of the bed made it impossible to enjoy the castle view. Still, the room was nicely appointed and the bedding was very comfortable.

Breakfast was also a disappointment. The buffet lacked in sufficient choices (the only fruit was watermelon, and it would have been nice to have something besides a muffin or pastry), and anything "hot" was extra, even with Hilton status. We paid 5 GBP and I enjoyed a nice omelet.

As we were given drink vouchers, we used them at the adjacent bar after dinner on our second night. The bar is pretty, but geared more toward older business people than 30-something tourists. Oh, and the vouchers were only good for very basic cocktails or beer, so that was an additional disappointment.

While this hotel's location may be great for those travelling on business, it is not a good choice for tourists.

Dear Snowbunny 16,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for sharing your experience.

I am disappointed to read of your experience at the hotel and would like to sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.

We value our Hilton Honor guests with our Diamond Members and partners receiving benefits including complimentary continental breakfast each morning as well as a drinks voucher to use at their leisure in the hotel bar.

We pride ourselves in offering an extensive choice for breakfast to give our guests a great start to the day. We clearly fell short on this for you and your husband for which I would like to sincerely apologise.

Your feedback is very much appreciated and will assist us in reviewing our offerings to continually develop our services and product to meet with our guests needs.

Kind regards

First impression - the staff at this hotel were extremely friendly, from the front desk, to the wait staff at the restaurant and bar, to housekeeping - this was a very enjoyable hotel to visit! The rooms and common areas have all been renovated and look great, like a new hotel.

The positives - great location within walking distance of oldtown, Edinburgh castle and many pubs nearby. The food and drinks at the bar and restaurant were very good. The room was large by European standards with adequate storage, except for the bathroom. Although the bathroom was small the shower was excellent and the new towels felt great. We had a view of the castle - I could never grow tired of looking out at that! Ask for the view - well worth it! Breakfast each morning was fresh and filling. And as mentioned above, great staff.

Now for a couple of (minor) issues - the internet was a bit cludgy - had to sign in every time - but hey, it was free. The room had a space heater which was more than adequate, but the central temperature control appeared to be off - if the weather had not been quite good, would the room have been comfortable - check this before booking, especially as summer comes - not that hot there but the room could get stuffy quickly. I have read that the plumbing has some issues - some strange "visitors" in our toilet - talked to the front desk about this and they were appalled, promised to address this - it's an old hotel and this was a bit troubling but not a reason to avoid staying there.

Would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Get a view of the castle if possible. A high floor may be best since the view rooms also face the s...

Dear Cliff j,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us at the DoubleTree by Hilton Edinburgh.

I am delighted to read that you thoroughly enjoyed your stay with us and that all aspects of the hotel met with your needs and expectations.

I am also happy to confirm that the AC system is now fully operational with all the space heaters removed to pastures new giving guests full control of their room temperature.

The view from our front facing rooms of Edinburgh Castle and the skyline of the city is something that we value and it is always great to read when our guests do too.

I appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you back again soon.

Kind regards

This is hotel is like brand new with a great location and a superb view of the castle. There is a good vibe in the bar area, but not overly loud. Food was good at both meals we took there. The room was spacious and very up to date. Thursday night event on rooftop Sky Bar was nice, too.

Staff was very helpful and attentive in every way. It was a mix of business and tourists. We were driving, so had to use car park about two blocks away. But not bad at all and easy to get to.

Stayed for one night on business, have stayed there before when it was the Point, and can see the improvements that have been made.
I enjoy the warm cookie at check in although this week there were none available - we managed to get one later on so no big disappointment! Reception staff very friendly and welcoming.
The hotel is in a great location, breakfast of the usual Hilton standard and refurbished room very clean and comfortable. Our room was nice and spacious (I think we got an upgrade with Hhonors Gold which also gives us free Wifi) with the usual facilities you would expect from Hilton.
Noticed that the voice in the lift that announces the floors wasn't very clear.
Staying again for 2 nights next week and am sure it will be the same good experience.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us on your business trip to Edinburgh.

I am delighted that your stay was an enjoyable and look forward to welcoming you back again this week.

I will however check the lift announcements as this is a new installation and needs to be clear and concise.

Thank you for your feedback.

Slick check in, excellent staff front of house, and comfortable rooms. Dinner in restaurant was very good if but from a limited menu.
The hotel has a Sky bar with brilliant views of the Castle and out over the River Forth to Five.

I did have a problem with noise from furniture being moved for a function in the Sky bar in the early hours, and did complain to no avail during the night, despite receptionist stating they would ask them to be quieter.
However the way I always judge a hotel is how they deal with complaints and issue's and I have to give credit where credit is due, the receptionist and deputy general manager were exceptional when I raised the issue of noise on checking out. My complaint had already been acted on, and function manager had been spoken with, to ensure it did not re occur. I left the hotel I feeling a valued customer, reasured and looking forward to my next stay in two weeks.

Giovanni Valentini, Asst General is a great asset to the hotel and Hilton group and has a good team around him.

There is no pool or spa, so not sure why it is has shown in options.
