“Definitely one of Edinburgh's hidden gems!”
Reviewed 31 December 2013

We've just had a lovely takeaway meal from The Village, with my brother and his wife. We often struggle for good healthy vegetarian options when "eating out" but this place ticks so many boxes.
Value for money, fresh food, healthy, veggie and nice service.
Will Def be back in the future

“A hidden gem”
Reviewed 15 October 2013

We stumbled across this place on the Saturday of Munster vs Edinburgh and expected everywhere to be packed. The restaurant was empty and the waiter seemed shocked that someone had come in. His shock was such that we didn't get asked for drinks at all and had to make a point of individually ordering them as he kept turning to leave after taking one order of the three at the table.

Their food is really what we were after and the taste was worth the sizable wait. As the only person getting a starter they decided (without telling me) that this would be served with my main meal, a lamb kharahi. This was tremendously full of flavour and served with a colourful basmati rice.

My wife would cant abide anything hotter than a korma was a bit perplexed by its absence on the menu. The kitchen would not be deterred and her Chicken Biranyi came with a bowl of korma sauce instead.

A great meal however the restaurant is let down by its position next to Vittoria which was packed to the rafters which would sway many people from its doors.

The waiter's inexperience, while well meaning, showed also and while it gave us a giggle, less patient people wouldn't have been so kind.

Would I go again?....in a heartbeat.

“Great Restaurant!”
Reviewed 30 September 2013

We went here during bank holiday in August, Ed fringe was on too, and it was lovely. Bring your own bottle was great for our small budget as there is a tesco nearby so we bought two bottles. It felt a bit weird but the waitress, who was fab, didn't mind at all and even chilled one for us. The food was really yummy and plentiful! We couldn't walk after! We used the Natwest taste card so it was very cheap, we left a £10 tip as we felt a little bad.
Highly recommend this small little restaurant!

“Great curry fantastic value for money”
Reviewed 3 August 2013

If I could give this half marks I'd give it 3.5 out of 5 but this by no means detracts away from how good the curries are. First of all starters were around £4 and the portion was pretty large- chicken and veg pakoras very tasty and got 5 large pieces. Lamb Karachi was next very tasty not too hot and the bowl of curry is around a third larger than other restaurants this also came with rice or nan at £9 this is superb value and its a BYOB. We struggled to finish the meal given the portion size so probably a starter to share for next time.

Where this place did fall down was the restaurant didn't have a particularly good atmosphere with only 7/8 tables and unfortunately we were placed right outside the toilets. Menu is very limited and doesn't contain your standard kormas or bhunas.

We had a very good waitress so I would say this is not a place for large groups or special occasions but certainly worth a visit for large portions of tasty food and byob. With Tesco only round the corner not to far for a bottle of wine for a cheap meal. Best value and tasty Indian meal in town

“great food and good service!”
Reviewed 3 August 2013

four of us booked in for dinner on Thursday night on a "Todays great deal" voucher. The restaurant is small, very clean and has a great relaxed atmosphere, so much so we arrived at 7.30 and left at 12! It is not licensed therefore its BYOB which was great. We brought a few! even cider which they didnt mind! The food was so good and lots of it, the menu was not too extensive which I find is off putting anyway! The waitress was lovely and even boxed up our leftovers to take home. Would definitely recommend this place and will go back soon!
