Owner description: Alien rock was Scotlands first dedicated indoor climbing centre and has been providing a fun, exciting and friendly venue for indoor climbers since 1994. Indoor climbing is suitable for almost all ages and abilities from the complete novice to experienced climber, whether you visit individually or as part of a group of friends. Instruction can be booked in advance or experienced climbers can just turn up. There are no annual or monthly membership fees for daily entry. Hire equipment is also available. There are two venues, 'alien 1' is primarily for roped climbing both top-roping and leading; 'alien 2'is a dedicated bouldering centre nearby where the climbing is done over soft, 'crash' matting.

Been an Alien regular for going on 10 years now, introduced me to climbing. More intimate (and warmer!!!) than Ratho, friendly staff, varied and regularly rotated route setting, main spread of routes in the 6's and 7's with plenty of easy stuff too. Sister wall at Alien 2 for the beanie-hatted bouldering brigade is top notch too. Both were genesis for Scottish indoor climbing, being the first dedicated climbing walls of their kind built in Scotland. Original and best!

“great afternoon”
Reviewed 11 September 2013

Took my 2 kids aged 9 and 5 here for an hour's taster session. The older one had done a bit of mucking around on climbing walls before, the younger one not so much, but they were soon harnessed up and scaled to the top of a number of walls, initially with no restriction on route but soon being told to stick to a certain colour of hold. For a pair of exciteable children they actually concentrated really hard, did their best, and had a real sense of acheivement. Their instructor was very calm and in control and had them doing exactly as he wanted - quite important to minimise risk of them hurting themselves or getting in someone else's way. It was mid-afternoon at the end of the school holidays and not busy. I was surprised how much I enjoyed watching them! They both loved it and were keen to go back.
