“good week-end”
Reviewed 27 November 2011

Just back from a 2 night stay and felt had to write to tell you how excellent it was. The location is great walking distance from Waverley Station, and just over the road from John Lewis, and within easy reach of Princes Street, George Street and all the things you would want to do and see. So yes an ideal situation. The check in was fault free, and our room up on the 5th floor was at the back of the hotel, very very clean, of a decent size, quiet, and warm. The breakfast room was busy, but no probs finding a table (area open on the ground floor too), and always plenty of staff around to restock and clear. We didn't use the bar facility, but saw that many were so take it that it was ok. The Christmas tree in the foyer was amazing, so beautifully decorated and put many in the city, well put all of them in the city to shame! Lots to see and do in Edinburgh, have fallen in love with the city, will definitely visit again and hopefully manage to reserve at the Holiday Inn Express city centre.

Well located, only about 10 minutes walk from Waverley Station and Princes Street, close to Omini Centre complex of cinemas, restuarants and pubs. Opposite Playhouse Theatre and lots of restaurants nearby. Very limited ar parking (12 bays) at the back of hotel, but good value at £10 per night if you can get in, otherwise if you come by car, it is about £25 in the nearby Greenside Car Park. Our room was at front at busy junction, but good glazing and no noise from outside. Reception staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Room was reasonable size, nicely furnished and clean. Good power shower in bathroom. The included breakfast was excellent and included egg, beans and sausage. Bar next to reception is comfortable and good for a quick drink before going out for dinner or a nightcap before bed.

Location is great, right in the middle of things, plenty of eating places and bars around the hotel and a tesco express a few doors away.

I stayed for one night on business, got a room on the first floor which backed onto the car park, was a little concerned about noise, but no need, slept like a baby.

Check in staff were very friendly, am a member of the rewards programme so received a goody bag with snacks etc in and a free drink voucher.

Room itself was comfortable and clean, shower was good and powerful and everything worked.

Breakfast was free and a good start to the day, does the basics like cereals/toast/fruit but also 3 hot items (sausage, beans and scrambled egg whilst I was there).

I've stayed in much more expensive hotels in Edinburgh and this has beaten them in terms of service and value.

Ok so its walkable to Princes Street and we all know city centre hotels are expensive, this was very reasonable at about 125 UK pounds per night, but as the old adage goes, 'you get what you pay for'.

There is nowhere to park, I believe the hotel has a 8/9 car port out back which is always full and at a cost of 10 uk pounds per night. Beyond that you have to park in a council car park which is pretty much an epic drive away at 25 uk pounds per night. My husband drew up to the curbside dropped me off with 2 very heavy suitcases and then (after enquiry and directions from the reception staff) proceeded on his epic journey to park. I, at this point, was left on the cold steps, in fairness one of the reception girls did offer to help me in but the bags were so heavy I declined for her sake, no porters HI Express remember! Fortunately she was able to check us in from the steps and by the time my husband returned 25 minutes later I had the room key.

Now, I've just spent time sitting on cold steps, what I found was another assault course for suitcases, down more steps to the lifts, on exiting, more steps up to our room! My suitcase is feeling the wear as am!

For the Scottish, it was just a tarted up garret! Very small room, uncomfortable bed, no AC or heating depending on your time of year. Sloping ceilings on 6th floor which is claustrophobic, single open wardrobe (MFI springs to mind) very 'hostel' like.

BUT, we managed, and apart from the parking it could have been worse. Check out was the same as check in, sat on the steps with a pair of heavy cases whilst my husband had to manouevre our car through a car boot sale in the council car park.

All in all it was 'what you pay for', cheap, not so cheerful, and a very uncomfy bed for 3 nights Edinburgh.

Just returned from a weekend at the Holiday Inn Edinburgh City Centre. The check in was efficient and speedy with complimentary tea coffee biscuits and chocolates. The room was and bathroom was immaculate. The hotel is in a prime location and walking distance to everywhere. We enjoyed drinks at the bar and an amazing breakfast which contained everything cooked food. cereals, fruits, yoguts various breads and pasties.
If you are eating out try The Dome or Tiger Lilly's George Street. Had a lovely birthday the staff were all helpful and friendly. Would definately return for a short break or if taking in a show.

Stayed one night. Great location right opposite Playhouse Theatre on one side and John Lewis on the other. Minutes away from Princes Street. Room size fine with shower room. We were a back of Hotel with view out to the River Forth which was nice and quiet. Breakfast good, relaxed setting with good choice. Would return here again.
