“It's a Holiday Inn”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 November 2013

Just the same as any other in the Chain, but with a brilliant location for the theatre. We looked out of our window and the Playhouse was directly opposite. Slight noise at night if your at the front, however it was a Saturday. Great location for restaurants as well, with Mama Romas being excellent. When we were there you got 10% off your meal at Mama Romas if you presented your room key.
The only let down was the breakfast (what a rammy). The restaurant is split over 2 floors which meant carrying trays of hot food up and down stairs, which wasn't easy when it was as busy as it was. Needs to be better organised. The whole breakfast experience was a bit Butlinsy, however the food was okay.
I would stay again if going to the theatre.

Thank you for your review, I am sorry to hear of your experience at breakfast, our hotel is running at full occupancy at the moment therefore breakfast can become busy especially at peak times.

We certainly hope you will return again soon.

Stayed here for one night to see a show at the playhouse I knew it was supposed to be over the road from the theatre but was actually surprised at how close to the playhouse it was fab location. We had 3 of us staying in a room so had one double bed and a made up sofa bed wasn't to much room but enough for what we needed rooms were clean and bedding nice quality and nice complimentary shower gel the only disappointment was the breakfast room it was far to busy and needed a bigger serving area people were banging in to each other ect but apart from that overall the choice available was good a nice overall stay.

We have stayed at this city centre Holiday Inn Express on a few occasions because of its ideal location for visitors, as it is so close to the Playhouse Theatre, Princes Street shopping and the many other city centre attractions that Edinburgh has to offer. On these occasions we have had rooms to the rear of the hotel and we have always been satisfied with the accommodation, service and general facilities provided.

For our latest visit [1st November ] we were allocated room number 418 which is to the front of the hotel overlooking Picardy Place and the busy street scene. This room was surprisingly large and gave us a very comfortable base for the short time we were there. A buffet breakfast is included in the tariff and although its range is limited, it is still perfectly acceptable. The space given over to the buffet is however quite small and can become a little frantic at busy times, so it is best to avoid peak breakfast times, if possible.

This Holiday Inn Express is to be recommended as it really does deliver value for money by offering a well managed hotel with modern facilities ideally situated in the centre of Edinburgh along with an added bonus of being close to the bus and railway stations for those leaving the car at home.

Room Tip: Try for a room at the front of the hotel.

We have stayed in this Hotel for a few years now when we go to visit our Daughter,
We are always made very welcome. The location is great, the rooms are always clean.
Breakfast is very good.
My only complaint is they have put the Parking up from £10 to £13.50
We look forward to our next stay.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and your great feedback. It is always nice to see regular guests return to the hotel . With regards to the car parking we increased the price inline with our alternative parking so that both were the same.

We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

We recently stayed here as we were visiting the Playhouse Theatre.

When we first went into check in i'm afraid to say the welcome wasn't warming. Looked a bit like a hassle to the girl checking us in. However she directed us to our rooms. The rooms were standard but very nice. Comfortable bed and lovely bathroom with shower. A very comfortable and nice room.
Breakfast was included but was a bit of a let down. It was like a cattle market trying to get breakfast and when we eventually did we couldn't find a table. Thankfully a couple moved from a booth to let the 6 of us in. There was no hotel staff there to speak to about the breakfast or to help get tables etc. The breakfast wasn't that great either. It was all help yourself and mostly cereal and croissants.

The location is fantastic. The Playhouse is just across the road from the hotel. Its in a great location for shopping and eating also. I would stay at this hotel again as apart from the wee niggly bits it was indeed a nice hotel to stay at.
