“really good overnight stay”
Reviewed 15 August 2014

Last minute decision to stay a night during the fringe. Excellent location, really convenient for so many things. Hotel has some parking but it was all taken when we got there. Multi storey close by which is fine. Much better to leave your car outside the city and use public transport if you can. Room was very clean and comfortable, excellent shower. Not very big but absolutely fine just as a base and comfortable place to sleep.
We had a ground floor room facing road and so I was worried it would be noisy at night but it was really well glazed and we didn't hear anything. Excellent nights sleep.
Breakfast included in the price. Buffet style and lots of it but cooked food not particularly good. Very watery scrambled eggs and rubbery sausages. Toast, cereals, croissants, yoghurt and fruit available.
Overall no frills, food below average but convenient, comfortable and clean, staff helpful, would definitely stay again and recommend.

If you need just a place to sleep (with reasonable prices) while enjoying beautiful city of Edinburgh this hotel is a good choice. Its location is really great, almost on walking distance from all important sites in the city. The hotel is quiet and very clean. They even offer different types of pillows.
However, if you expect very comfortable accommodation with lot of amenities than this hotel isn’t for you. The design and service are very basic. Rooms are quite small (double rooms at least) and the breakfast was disappointing. I would recommend it because of location

This hotel was so nice and my brother and I couldn't believe how close it was to everything in this fair city of Edinburgh. We were near St. Mary's Catholic Cathedral, pubs, restaurants, (including a Nepalese/Tibetan restaurant !!), and the walk up and down the street was fun and invigorating. The façade of the hotel is built just like the old beige- sooty buildings of this city. It has a charm that wasn't overly modern or commercialized. In fact, we got a little lost because we passed this hotel up because the outside of it was so much like the other old buildings that surrounded it. Our room was small by American standards, but that didn't bother us a bit. It was clean and we could even drink the water from the tap !!! On the television we watched STV, or Scottish TV. We loved hearing the accents!! After our tour of Edinburgh Castle we walked around the Royal Mile and then took a taxi back. We were near a Tesco store which sells groceries and good food at great prices. The breakfasts at the hotel were also great. I had baked beans every morning. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a safe place to stay that is near everything !!

Room Tip: If you get a room facing the sunrise it will start getting light around 4 am in the summer. Ask for...

well revisited again this year and found it still the same hospitable and clean place to say handy to all transport and eateries i would stay again without a doubt my wife and i were welcomed by staff and as we arrived after 2 in the afternoon were quickly allocated our room we had a room overlooking picardy place and being warm at this time of year had to open window slightly at night for cool air
got a bit of a drone from buses at night but nothing to stop you sleeping
maybe a aircon would only improve this lovely hotel become a five star plus

An excellent hotel. Amazing rooms, great service, comfortable beds, not much noise, fantastic condition, quick service, helpful reception, great location, and what it provides is great. This is a one of a kind, hotel of what a hotel should be!

From the included breakfast, to the bar, and the free unlimited WiFi, this hotel is above an beyond, and has met every single one of my needs. The hotel is in a great location with the Edinburgh Castle, lots of shops, and lots of food places really nearby.

Only downside is the fact that our bathroom plug didn't work, and that the breakfast wasn't a huge choice. But all in all a fabulous hotel, that I definitely recommend for 1 night or up to a weekend!

I'm not sure if every hotel receptionist in Edinburgh is trained to be rude and unaccommodating, but these ones must be. After an extremely long international trip, my young son and I came to the hotel and were told check-in isn't until 2. I watched dozens of people check out of the hotel, and so I asked if I could pay any additional fee to have the room cleaned so that we could check in early. My request was met with total indifference, no explanation as to why this was not possible, and attitude. I wish that I had not prepaid for the room for 3 nights. I will never be staying here again. Worst customer service I've had in Scotland in 3 visits.

We were booked into this hotel by our travel agent and were not warned about the fact it was not only very basic accomodation in the heart of Edinburgh, it also lacked user-friendly car parking facilities. We had a hire car that we had to leave in the car park throughout our stay, for fear of losing one of the very few spots available. We travelled by bus everywhere whilst we were in Edinburgh for 4 days.
Not only were there only a few spots in the backyard of the hotel, they were also quite small, with very little room to park without moving back and forth a minimum of 15-20 times to get into a space. Once in the space, there was virtually no room to open dooors on both sides of the car to get out! Quite a huge negative for a hotel that charges for parking at a high rate/day.
This is one hotel we will not be considering when we next visit beautiful Edinburgh.

Room Tip: I doubt there are any. It is run-down, basic and the rooms are small and hot

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review following on from your recent stay.

Due to our location in the centre of Edinburgh parking is limited at the hotel, however we do offer two other discounted car parking options within a few minutes walk of the hotel which may have been more suitable to you.
