Owner description: The Black Cat is an independent business on the lively Rose Street, Edinburgh. It was established two years ago and now in the words of the Financial Times Mag "one of Edinburgh's top five places to hang out" and we agree.... This bar specialises in Scottish Whisky, currently with over 130+ (and ever growing)malts. Staff are well trained for any whiskies questions so make sure you challenge them when you get your dram! Whether your a novice or an expert we have something for you! We do have a small bar menu, basic but sure it's only to munch on with a pint! We are all Scottish (we do have Guinness, but that's a standard!

The Black Cat is real gem amongst the busy pub on Rose Street. Small in stature but massive on atmosphere this has to be on everyone's list of must visit pubs in Edinburgh. The selection of Whisky's are second to none and the knowledge of the staff is highly commendable.

It was our first trip to Edinburgh and we stumbled across this little bar, There were table outside and the bar doors open and a folk band playing. It was a great atmosphere for a sunday lunch time. A bottle of house wine was £7.99!
It is a bar with such good character and a lot of different choice of drinks (esp whiskey) and they also do bar snacks.
The bar staff were very friendly!
We can't wait to go back!

Popped in for a nightcap. Service friendly and knowledgable . We went for a whisky flight....Staff recommendations were superb....very good matches and contrasts! Much better than The Abbotsford in the whisky stakes, the staff want you to enjoy your dram! Go there!

Lovely and friendly place. The food is great and at a reasonable price.
We went there for lunch and had fish & chips and chicken tenders: both were delicious.

Visiting Edinburgh with an american colleague, we were recommended this pub by the friendly staff at the Wildfire resturant nearby. And they were spot-on! The lady behind the bar was really friendly and efficient and the live music was a plus. No whisky for the american but he says that the Kendricks and tonic was excellent.
