This Reviewer must be born in the same Month as me because he said the Hotel was Quirky and that is what I wanted it to be after 12 years of renovations from a No Star Hotel (almost) to a well respected and Loved Edinburgh Hotel.

Annette and my children Hayley and Struan gave me the Inspiration on what the Hotel should be like, just as they are all very different and myself we guessed that so will the Guests who stay here would be, so we set out to keep as much of the Original Building as we could but to add lots of modern touches to the renovations, Pumped Power Showers, Dimmer Switches, Free DVD's, Docking Stations, Flat Screen TVs with Freeview and Wi-Fi to name a few and to top it off a definitely quirky Breakfast/Dinning room leading on to a Quirky Garden with the Three Pyramids of Giza over the Universal Pond of Life..

Just home from our second stay at this superb hotel. It should be subsidised by the Edinburgh Tourist Board to make sure it lasts forever! The rooms are well furnished and fitted out, lots of lighting options and dimmer witches, comfy beds and pillows, great bathroom.
Hard to fault the breakfast and it's clear the owners like people and looking after you for your stay. Cosy well-stocked bar, good location just outside the centre, free parking on the street outside.
When really impressed with a place, hotel or restaurant we give it the ultimate recommendation to our friends..and a few minutes ago we just did : "I'll give you your money back if you don't love it". It's that good.

At times when you work almost 24/7 365 in your own business and especially when it is a Hotel with lots of People with different personalities walking through your front door your own personality is tested constantly but then you remember why you chose to be a Hotelier, and for myself and Annette we wanted to earn a good living where we could be ourselves at all times but just as importantly we wanted to show the World what a Great and Beautiful Country Scotland is and of course my own beloved Edinburgh.

We believe that Scotland has a great respect for its own Citizens and therefore the Worlds and when Someone such as this reviewer says such lovely, lovely things about the Hotel Ceilidh-Donia we believe that we have achieved what we set out to do but will continually strive to meet our Guest needs and listen to their comments

I think I shouldn't write a review...this little metro hotel is simply perfect. Ok it's a townhouse converted into an hotel so the configuration isn't perfect; like the sound proofing and the lack of an elevator for luggages but these are very minor things! The staff/owner are wonderful, you feel like with family when you are staying there. They are more than helpful and ensure that your stay is ideal. You'll have directions and suggestions once you arrive at the hotel, so you're not lost on your first day. The breakfast is a very nice start for the touring days. You are not too far if you want to walk to the major attraction, but it's a bit of a walk, so I would suggest the bus or a taxi. Both are very cheap, the bus system in Edinburg is good and the taxis are not expensive at all and most drivers very nice. My stay at the Ceilidh-Donia was a good part of the reason why I fall in love with the city and Scotland. Thanks again for this nice stay and I'll come back!

We loved being called a Little Gem in Edinburgh by this reviewer because Edinburgh is regarded as The Jewel in Scotland’s Crown, and yes we do not have an Elevator but we do have a Lovely Cupola to look at as you climb the Stairs, and there are only two levels above Ground Floor.

We are also delighted that the reviewer loved the choice of Breakfast that we offer as we believe Breakfast should not be over and done with quickly like a Fast Food place but to be a relaxed and enjoyable start to the Day, that is why we are probable on of the few Small Hotels that offer Breakfast over Two Hours in The Morning, enabling Guest to have a wee sleep in..

Located slightly out of the main city centre but does have good access to local bus routes. The room we had was clean and comfortable, although very warm. Breakfast was included and was excellent the only real criticism we had is that it does seem that if too many people have a shower at once then the hot water runs out which was a bit annoying. Overall though this is a great hotel with friendly staff and I would definitely recommend it.

V for M is a great compliment, this is what we strive for at the Hotel Ceilidh-Donia, Value for Money in this World recession and is a target that we hope to hit with all Tourists and is a great compliment after these reviewers have no doubt stayed in may other places on their Holidays here in the UK.

V for M and a great Breakfast is great review and we hope to hit this target as many times as we can in the future...

Lovely hotel, perfect if you are travelling by car as there is on street parking nearby. Good bus service into the centre of Edinburgh. Spotlessly clean rooms and friendly and welcoming owners. One criticism is that the stairs are steep and there is no lift although there isn't much the owners can do to change that! Good value for money. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

This guess review certainly cheered us up with his review saying spotlessly clean and friendly, I told the Staff who lovingly look after the rooms, really they do, our two Head Housekeepers would be utterly mortified if a Guest found their work not to be up to the very best of modern Hotel standards to them it is not a chore but they honestly love getting the rooms Spick and Span and ready for their Guest arrival and the daily makeovers.
Annette and I may Own and work in the Hotel every day but we encourage the Staff to genuinely feel part of the Big Picture and they are most of the reason that The Hotel Ceilidh-Donia has received such good reviews.

Ah the Stairs again, it is a small problem but all buildings of this Victorian age have much the same type of staircase, the funny thing is since we have renewed the hall, stair and corridor carpets we have noticed that sometimes people comment of them more so we are thinking of enhancing the staircase handrails..

We stayed here the first two nights of our Scottish holidays based on reviews here and they met all our expectations. Service and Hospitality are their trademarks and all else associated with the place are top notch.
Their old dogs add a quaintness that one doesn't get at a City Center hotel and the owners give a personal attentiveness that I find better than the sterile atmosphere one gets in Corporate hotels.
First impressions are usually those kept and the nice feelings we got staying there will stay forever.

These Guest's spotted something about the Hotel Ceilidh-Donia that I think is one of our great assets namely my Wife Annette's attentive nature, she really does care about Guest's journey times and if the journey by Air, Rail or Road was also good and will then offer helpful suggestions if needed.
She is never happier than when Guests leave her Hotel with great memories of Edinburgh, Scotland and the Hotel. We will definitely remember these Guests compliments for a long time..

Was taken to Edinburgh for a birthday break with my boyfriend and loved every minute of it! Hotel feels warm and cosy as soon as you walk in and looks modern. Greeted by two lovely golden retrievers who spend the majority of the time lying in the bar, they added to the homey feel of the hotel. Upon arrival we were shown the bus routes into town and how far it is to walk to the main attractions e.g. Edinburgh Castle. We however didn't use the bus we walked everywhere but it is quite a lengthy walk about 25mins into the city. The hotel is set away from the main road so mostly quiet at night time (one of the reasons my boyfriend chose it).
The room was nice and enough room for the both of us, absolutely loved the shower! Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits available in room. The WI-FI was a bit of hit and miss in our room but we didn't really use it that much.
Ate in the hotel one night and the food was spot on, pudding was especially nice too! My only minor complaint about the food was the English breakfast. The menu says hash brownsbut I got, what looked and tasted like boiled potatoes on two occasions, they definitely weren't hash browns but apart from that the breakfast was delicious!
The only problem I had with the hotel was the stairs are a bit hard to walk down whilst trying to lug down a large heavy suitcase, apart from that everything was great and would definitely stay here again. Wish we had stayed for another day to see absolutely everything.
It's easy to navigate around the city, taxis aren't that expensive about a £5/£6 into the city and buses are everywhere.
Definitely recommend this hotel!
Oh and make a trip to an Italian restaurant called Vittoria near the castle absolutely gorgeous food!

These Guest loved our power showers and of course we have them in all rooms and in our own Flat in the Hotel as well, they are called Aqualisa, they work of normal Gravity flow system and have a miniature low voltage pump inside the shower. We see from their review that they visited Vittoria Restaurant on Goerge the 1V Bridge in the City center, Annette and i think it may be the best Italian Restaurant in Edinburgh..

They also liked our quiet but good location with a great bus service with a Taxi only about £6 to bring them back home to the Hotel, but we see our Hash Browns are not what was expected, there are a few versions of this around and in New York people like old mashed potatoes mixed with left over rice and Pan fried, you can buy crispy varieties in the shops but we tradditional just use cooked potatoes chop them up in the morning so that they are still fresh and Pan fry them..but if any people reading the guest review and my response please feel easy about e-mailing your own way of making Hash Browns..
