Lovely clean and comfortable hotel. Everything you could need and great choice of breakfast. We were given a useful map ,clear directions and all the information we required. Have stayed in Edinburgh quite a few times and this is definitely one of the nicest places we've ever stayed . A little bit out of the centre ,but only a few minutes on the bus ,there are two handy bus stops and frequent buses.

Annette greeted us warmly and gave us directions to an excellent restaurant nearby. Our rooms were good sized and very comfortable featuring very good toiletries. Wi Fi worked well and so did TV. Breakfast was excellent with both cold buffet items and cooked to order eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. There were four of us and cab fare to the center city was as good as taking the bus and much more convenient. I had asked Maxx for a room requiring no stair climbing and room one met that need. Our 2 night stay was delightful and we would definitely use this hotel again!
Parking is first come first served on the streets nearby. We were lucky and got a place within 200 ft of the hotel but I can see that it could definitely be a challenge sometimes.

Many Moons of thanks for a wonderful Review, we offer Breakfast over a 2 hour period so that our Guests can relax into their day and if they want to we have the Bar and Lounge to read a few newspapers etc. before heading off. We are just installing a standalone Computer/Printing/ Faxing facilities for our Guest in the Bar and with our New Wi-Fi systems we hope that all our Guests communication needs are met. Taking a Taxi into Town when there are three or more persons is good value for money and as you found out just as cheap as taking the Bus, and no hassles..

We stayed here for four nights in September. This is a charming and very clean inn. The couple who own the inn are friendly and very accommodating. The inn is located outside of the city centre, so it is very quiet and located in a charming neighbourhood. Would definitely stay here again.

We have been in This Hotel for 15 years now and like our previous business in Edinburgh called The Dunedin Guest House (Dunedin is the Ancient name for Edinburgh) we are in this business because we enjoy it and we like to meet People from all over the World and welcome them to Bonnie Scotland, inch by inch one of Mother Nature’s greatest gifts to Mankind.

I was in Edinburgh by myself to catch some of the Festival and chose this Hotel, so glad I did because although a 30minute walk from the centre which I enjoyed because of the exercise and there were plenty of buses passing that way anyway, I was made very welcome by the excellent hosts. Although I had the smallest bedroom in the Hotel Annette and Max made it up to me which was very welcome and kind of them. Food was delicious and plentiful and my bedroom had everything I needed and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there. Would recommend to others.

Many Moons of thanks for a great review of The hotel Ceilidh-Donia, and yes you are right we have a terrific Bus Service from just two minutes’ walk from the Hotel but it is also a little treat to walk into Town.
When the Festivals are all on we have nearly half of all the Shows just 20 minutes’ walk away for our Guests and I have been known to crack a few Jokes from time to time, tee hee hee.
The Room you had is our smallest but is also very cosy and cheerful and all with en-suite.

I'm a late reviewer! I stayed here for 5 nights in April 2013 with two colleagues as we were attending a 5 day course at the adjacent university. The couple who own/run the hotel are fabulous. They are very friendly and really care about their guests. As it was a business trip I wanted a functional hotel. This really exceeded my expectations as the room was large with lots of extras and an amazing breakfast. There's a complimentary drink during your stay which was a nice surprise in the current financial climate.
The hotel is in a quiet location, that is both close to Arthur's seat and right next to the main campus for the University of Edinburgh. There are lots of local restaurants in the area to suit all tastes. In addition, there are frequent transport links, a short walk away, to take you into the city centre.

Many Moons of thanks for a Sparkling review, our location is almost perfect for Edinburgh University, The Campus is but 2 minutes’ walk away, Kings buildings is a Bus Ride of 10 mins and the Historical Heart of Edinburgh University is also only 10 mins by Bus.
We are delighted that we exceeded your expectations and have now a dedicated Computer/Pinter/Fax facility in the Bar.. It is also greatly appreciated that you mentioned our Hot Breakfasts and all cooked to order, no languishing for ages in a tray for my Bacon/Sausages or Egg, No Siree, ha ha ha..

We stayed six nights at the Ceilidh-Donia in late August, when we attended the Fringe Festival. We selected the hotel based in other TA reviewer comments, and could not have been happier with our choice. While not plush, our delightful third floor (second floor, if you're not an American) was well furnished, beautifully lit and had all modern conveniences, plus thoughtful perks like full coffee and tea supplies. Although the bus service is handy and efficient, the location is an easy 15 minute walk to many Old Town venues, a good thing for us as we needed the exercise to "recover" from the terrific cooked to order breakfast which is included in the room rate. Max and Annette are terrific hosts, friendly and helpful but not intrusive. I highly recommend the Ceilidh-Donia and will look forward to a return visit.

Many Moons of thanks for a wonderful review of The Hotel Ceilidh-Donia, as a One Star Hotel 15 years ago when we bought this old wreck we set out to stay within Room Budgets, Furniture wise and so yes we are not plush or pretentious, but we are now getting to a stage where we are going to renew all the Furniture over the next three years.
We are also upgrading four rooms during the Winter and continually try to improve our Hotel offerings to our much appreciated Traveling Guests. We hope as you commented to see you again..
