“Lovely stay”
Reviewed 18 April 2014

We stayed at Hotel Ceilidh-Donia for two nights. Upon arrival our host was very friendly and able to provide us with a map and information about good places to eat. We ended up going to a local pub, the Salisbury Arms, which was a lot of fun! The room was very nice and spacious for a three bed room. Breakfast was superb, lots of options. Nice location, as out of the touristy part of Edinburgh but still close enough to walk or take the many buses that connect the hotel to the royal mile. Overall, a great hotel, would definitely stay here again.

Dear Revieweee

Many Moons of thanks for a Great Review of our Wee Hotel, by your description of the Room you must have had a great View of Edinburgh's Own Little Volcano called Arthurs Seat, which I think is an asset that no amount of money could buy and gives Edinburgh a very unique topography.

It is 823 Ft High, has a road all the way around and it goes half way up, so if you are in a Car you can park next to Dunsapie loch and walk the rest of the way to the top, it also has 3 Lochs, 2 Golf Courses, A Palace and a Beautiful Bird Sanctuary all within its environ, oops and a 700 year Old Pub called Sheep Heid, oops and a 1000 year old Church, HEY and all just a walk from the Hotel..

Maxx..

P.s There is evidence of people farming this Volcano some 10,000 years ago on its east side and their efforts are still visible today..

Our recent 4 night stay was a treat. Annette, Maxx and staff ensured our visit was memorable, providing, comfortable, clean room and an en-suite that included a wealth of bathroom accessories. The bottled water provided in the room was very welcome along with the tea and coffee making facilities. This Hotel provides excellent value for money.
Each day started with an extensive choice of tasty hot breakfasts the like of which would take some beating in a small hotel. We were spoilt for choice between traditional Scottish/English breakfast, Eggs Benedict, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on a muffin, and waffles, smoked bacon and maple syrup to name but a few.
We had an active 3 days in the city, utilising Annette’s and Maxx’s wealth of information which, incidentally had been e-mailed to us prior to our arrival. This included a map full of helpful detail-transport, restaurants, sights etc.
The relaxing and extensive bar was a great place to start or end the evening.
It was convenient for the city centre with a frequent bus service nearby which took 5/10 minutes max to get to the Royal Mile.
Our hosts warmth and helpfulness was much appreciated. If 6 stars could be awarded Ceilidh Donia would deserve it. We could not have wished for a better place to stay.

Many Moons of thanks for a Sparkling Review of our Hotel, I see that you used what I call The Gate Keeper Words for all Travellers "VALUE for MONEY" thanks for that, we like to try and get all the little things right and hope that it all adds up to a great holiday with us.

We think that when people book nowadays either directly with us or with an Online Booking Company that by sending out our own personalised Information and our own Map of Edinburgh but kinda tilted towards our neighbourhood then our Guests will arrive well informed of their locality and will know the Pubs/Restaurants near the Hotel and the Buses/Costs and our proximity to the City Center.

Annette and Janet say thanks for the compliments for their Excellent Breakies and I say thanks for noticing my little Bar, I will keep care of it until your return, tee hee hee..

Stayed for 3 nights and can unreservedly recommend the experience.
Friendly welcome, efficient service, clean room (with excellent shower) and good breakfasts - can particularly vouch for the kippers.
Also has an intimate bar for a pre or post dinner drink.
Convenient for walking into centre of Edinburgh (25/30 minutes) or picking up regular bus services into the city.
Friendly dog adds the finishing touch!

Many Moons of thanks for a Sparkling Review of our Hotel, it is really appreciated when Guest take time to write a review in their own hectic lives.

Janet and Annette do love to Cook Up a Delicious Hot Breakfast, a Full Breakfast ( The Great British Breakfast) really can see you through to your evening meal, I know it may be obvious to some people but the word Break Fast does what it says on the Tin, you Break your (when sleeping) Fast when you awake in the morning and I for one, well only on Sundays now, love the thought of all those goodies waiting for me on my plate to eat, especially my two Tattie (must be crisp) Scones, oh and a good Pot of Tea, Oh oh oh and the Sunday Papers to read, jees I wish Sunday was tomorrow, ha ha ha..

Very good value for a pleasant if slightly "quirky" hotel. Very well situated in a lovely part of Edinburgh. We received a very warm welcome and found the room to be spotlessly clean and well equipped. Breakfast was great - our only negative being the lack of a lift!

Dear Guest

Thanks for an illuminating review of Our Quirky Hotel, and I suppose as the Architect of most of the Hotels appearance and design then I must be Quirky as well, hhmm and I suppose I am indeed quirky as well, so thanks very much for the compliment, ha ha ha.. We are delighted that you found our Wee Hotel to be welcoming and that the Rooms were clean and our Breakfast were to be enjoyed..

OOppps sorry about the Non Lift but unfortunately Town House Hotels are not designed to have them and invariable do not have those expensive facilities..

We chose this hotel from the Trip Advisor recommendations and it didn't disappoint. An excellent breakfast every morning , served by attentive and cheery staff set us up for the day.
Our room was nicely appointed and clean and the management were helpful without being intrusive. We would definitely return!!

Dear Revieweee

Many Moons of thanks for a Fabby Review of the Hotel Ceilidh-Donia, which is in fact two different words that being a would be Poet and Scottish I assumed that I had the right to put them together. A Ceilidh in Scotland is usually associated with a Guid Nicht Oot to celebrate our Scottish/Gaelic dancing heritage.

When I think of Scotland's History a Ceilidh to me in Days Past must have been much more than that Indeed it must have been a Gathering of different Clans to swap Animals, Goods, Stories and maybe a wee bitty Genetics as well, well after the Ceilidh of course, and living a decent walk away the Ceilidh probable lasted for a few Days or more.

As for the Donia, hhmm well The Romans called our Homeland Caledonia (Place of the Hard Tribes) and Alba (White People) and lastly Pictland, the place of the Painted People, so I decided as a Poet you understand, tee heeee, that Donia must mean the Place Of, so we now have The Hotel Ceilidh-Donia, The Place for Friends to Gather.

Hey my dear reviewer just going Off Track so to speak the Tribe that they said lived in the Edinburgh area were called the Gododin People and of course the God Odin was the Norse Peoples highest God, so I have always wondered how that came about 500 years before the Vikings were mentioned in History, maybe the Vikings were descended from The Scottish People, hhmm now there is a thought ..

It just does what it says on the box.
And the price is very reasonable.
And breakfast included.
Clean, efficient, professional and quiet.
Definitely I will come back.
It was a single bedroom for me this time, but everything was on its place: TV, tea & coffee + cookies, hair dryer and all the other things you would expect from good quality hotel. Bravo!

Everything about this hotel and its owners, Annette & Maxx, was excellent. We had a disabled room (my husband is disabled) and it was very well laid out and the bathroom was very good - not all 'disabled' bathrooms are actually suitable for disabled people! Very varied breakfasts, all excellent and tasty. Nothing was too much trouble, Annette suggested places to visit and even booked tour bus and entry tickets to attractions on line for us. The hotel is on the outskirts of the city but the bus stop is a couple of minutes walk away and we never waited more than 5 minutes for one. Buses were also disabled friendly. We highly recommend staying in this hotel for your trip to Edinburgh. Great hotel, great value.

Room Tip: Disabled room on ground floor.

Many Moons of thanks for a Great Review, also great to know that our Facilities on the Ground Floor suited you and your Husband’s needs, we do have another Ground Room but it does not have those facilities should other readers need two rooms on the Ground Floor. Edinburgh has an absolutely First Class Bus system and I believe all Buses can cater for Wheelchair users, hhmm I must find out if our Trams also can do this, when they eventually start to Run, ha ha ha..
Janet will be pleased to know that you loved her breakfast and when the good weather comes sitting on our back porch with an excellent breakfast is a very relaxing way to start the day..
