We have just returned from a short break in Edinburgh and stayed at this lovely hotel. It is immaculate, food is really great, it has a bar for residents and the owners could not do enough for you. We found this hotel through trip-advisor and would have no hesitation in recommending it. About a twenty minute walk from the centre of the City and it is in a very quiet area .

This hotel was great. It's a small very friendly hotel which is very cosy.

The staff and dogs are excellent with children, even cooling my 2 year olds porridge before serving it! The bar is well stocked with single malts and the staff are very knowledgeable about tourist attractions too.

The location is about 20 mins outside the centre through holyrood park which is good as it's really quiet and it's nice to walk. The hotel rooms were very comfortable with fluffy bedding and good decor. I often stay in rooms twice the cost which are not as comfortable. Breakfast was lovely, plenty of food and very good service. An all round excellent hotel

We found this hotel on Trip Advisor and were absolutely delighted with everything about it. The standard of decor, cleanliness, and comfort were all excellent. The service and friendliness of the owners was perfect. From now on we shall always choose Hotel Ceilidh-donia if we are visiting Edinburgh. What a gem!

My wife and i stayed here last week while through for a show.We had a check-in problem as they couldn't find our booking on their system but this was due to us using smoothound as a booking agent only to be told on arrival that the hotel hasn't used them for about 5 yrs and booking.com bought smoothound a few years ago but the problem was swiftly rectified and we were shown to our room (rm 18 on the ground floor).First impressions were good the room was an excellent size, clean and very fresh looking. On closer inspection things just got better the bed was a great size and very comfy the bathroom was spacious and well fitted out lots of storage space and flat screen tv mounted on wall.On arrival you are given a breakfast request sheet to fill out the night before if you want the full fry up or a continental style. There was plenty of tea, coffee, juice and bread for toast. The hotel is about 10 mins away from the centre of Edinburgh by taxi which i don't consider to far. This is a hotel that i will certainly try to book again in the future and would highly recommend to others

At one point Max said to me: “You get what you pay for” And I say now, “You get more, much more than what you pay for”

Yes because for £70 a night you get a very good double room and a really good full Scottish breakfast in a hotel reasonably near Edinburgh’s city center. No gimmicks.

Our room had a flat screen TV, ipod dock, nice bathroom with a large walk in shower, coffee and tea making facilities. We just couldn’t ask for more. Oh yes, free internet also!!

Breakfast is a feast, you can ask for up to 7 items in your cooked breakfast, more than enough.

And on top of that you can park your car just outside at no cost. For me it was perfect. And all that for just £70 a night.

Cons? Well, perhaps the stairs are a bit treacherous to climb, yes climb. And perhaps tea and toasts should be brought to the table other than the DIY business, but again you can’t possibly ask for more at this rate

Thank you Max for a wonderful stay.

The room was a double - bigger than expected with a nice bathroom and flat screen TV. The hotel is a short bus ride from the Royal Mile and there is a bus stop just a block from the hotel - though the bus stops and routes in the city in general are confusing. (Ask the hotel owners for advice and which stops to use. Buy an all-day pass - 3 pounds per person - for unlimited bus use throughout the day, then you can come and go to the hotel as you wish.) The staff was very nice - Max was very friendly, exuberantly Scottish, and chatted with us for quite a while our first night at dinner. The onsite restaurant was good and convenient for a night in - but only open to hotel guests at the time we stayed there. Breakfast was good - plenty of options, both continental and cooked. Wireless internet was free. The hotel was VERY quiet - slept great both nights we were there. The owners have two very sweet golden retrievers who hang out in the lobby.
