“We'd return to Edinburgh just to stay here again”
Reviewed 9 November 2010

Max and Anette run this charming B&B - we booked about 3 months out, and had very good communication with them before arriving. We had no trouble getting there - it's a 6-pound taxi ride from the Waverly train station.

We were greeted by their two huge golden retrievers. We were pleased to find a computer with internet & printer, a mostly full bar, and a small library of travel books at our disposal in the living room/lobby. Tartan carpeting guided us to our room on the third floor, and it was normal sized with comfy pillows. They added the finishing touch of zippering the two bedsheets together so nobody had to "sleep in the crack" - people that sleep in "double beds" in European hotels with a spouse will know what I'm talking about.

The TV channel selection was huge - not that we really watched much. I loved how you turned in your breakfast card the night before to "order" what you want the next day (kind of like cruise ship room service). Speaking of, the breakfast was out of sight - the porridge was awesome in particular.

The location is very good - you're a ways from the Royal Mile but it's nice to be away from the touristy area--but there are a lot of B&Bs nearby as well...plenty of pubs and restaurants within walking distance. The bus system is very easy to get downtown and Max & Anette were very helpful with recommendations.

All in all, in the top 2 of our B&B stays. #1 for value (60 pounds is a great price)!

Comfortable, spotlessly clean room, great shower, friendly service and a slap-up cooked breakfast - all for £40? Can't be bad!

Highly recommended.

We have just returned from a short break in Edinburgh and stayed at this lovely hotel. It is immaculate, food is really great, it has a bar for residents and the owners could not do enough for you. We found this hotel through trip-advisor and would have no hesitation in recommending it. About a twenty minute walk from the centre of the City and it is in a very quiet area .

This hotel was great. It's a small very friendly hotel which is very cosy.

The staff and dogs are excellent with children, even cooling my 2 year olds porridge before serving it! The bar is well stocked with single malts and the staff are very knowledgeable about tourist attractions too.

The location is about 20 mins outside the centre through holyrood park which is good as it's really quiet and it's nice to walk. The hotel rooms were very comfortable with fluffy bedding and good decor. I often stay in rooms twice the cost which are not as comfortable. Breakfast was lovely, plenty of food and very good service. An all round excellent hotel

We found this hotel on Trip Advisor and were absolutely delighted with everything about it. The standard of decor, cleanliness, and comfort were all excellent. The service and friendliness of the owners was perfect. From now on we shall always choose Hotel Ceilidh-donia if we are visiting Edinburgh. What a gem!

My wife and i stayed here last week while through for a show.We had a check-in problem as they couldn't find our booking on their system but this was due to us using smoothound as a booking agent only to be told on arrival that the hotel hasn't used them for about 5 yrs and booking.com bought smoothound a few years ago but the problem was swiftly rectified and we were shown to our room (rm 18 on the ground floor).First impressions were good the room was an excellent size, clean and very fresh looking. On closer inspection things just got better the bed was a great size and very comfy the bathroom was spacious and well fitted out lots of storage space and flat screen tv mounted on wall.On arrival you are given a breakfast request sheet to fill out the night before if you want the full fry up or a continental style. There was plenty of tea, coffee, juice and bread for toast. The hotel is about 10 mins away from the centre of Edinburgh by taxi which i don't consider to far. This is a hotel that i will certainly try to book again in the future and would highly recommend to others
